'Grey's Anatomy' Pompeo to marry fellow Bostonian

Ellen Pompeo, star of ABC's hit "Grey's Anatomy," has announced her engagement to her boyfriend of nearly three years, music producer Chris Ivery, reports Us Weekly. Both are Boston natives, yet they met in an L.A. grocery store, according to the mag, but they didn't go on a date until six months later. Ivery proposed to Pompeo on Friday, her 37th birthday, after breakfast at home. "She was surprised and thrilled," Pompeo's publicist told People magazine. People magazine reports that the couple were engaged on Friday and Pompeo sported a 3.5-carat emerald-cut sparkler by Tacori. The couple have not set a date or location for their nuptials.Pompeo and Ivery grew up minutes away from each other, but didn't meet until pals introduced them in Los Angeles in 2003. They didn't start dating right away. "We were friends for six months; then one night she just looked different to me," Ivery reported to People magazine in their October issue.
