Madonna awaiting adoption ruling
Nov 14, 2006, 12:10 GMT
Madonna's adoption of a 13-month-old boy will be ruled upon in Malawi's High Court next week.
Court officials will rule on whether a coalition of human rights and child advocacy groups should help determine whether the singer is fit to adopt David.
Justice Andrew Nyirenda said he will rule on November 20 as to whether to permit the 67-member coalition, which includes the state-run Malawi Human Rights Commission, to play a part in the adoption proceedings.
The coalition maintains that the adoption proceedings have been irregular.
Madonna, 48, and her director husband Guy Ritchie were granted an 18-month interim custody of David on October 12.
Malawi regulations state an 18 to 24 month assessment period must be spent in Malawi, but the couple were allowed to take their new son to their London home.
Madonna insists she has met all the country's requirements for adopting the child, and David's father, Yohane Banda, has said the human rights group's lawsuit threatens his son's future.
