Emmy winning newsman, Ed Bradley, dead at 65

Veteran TV newsman, Ed Bradley, has died from complications of leukemia, network anchorwoman Katie Couric announced on the air Thursday. He was 65.Mike Wallace, in an interview on Fox news, called colleague Bradley "a man of gentleness and man of strength, a man of integrity. Bradley was a complete reporter and a reporter's reporter. He covered the world, really."Bradley spent 26 seasons on the CBS program 60 Minutes, he had joined the CBS news program during the 1981-82 season. A son of Philadelphia, Bradley began his broadcast career as a radio disc jockey. He became a full-time correspondent for CBS in 1973. In 1976, CBS named him White House correspondent. His career at CBS began to take off.A true anchor of 60 Minutes, Bradley was had a unique interviewing style and personal style in dress that bucked the talking head trends of news anchors.People magazine reports "in the '80s, when Bradley acquired a diamond stud earring that he wore on the air, he was initially concerned about negative reactions."The CBS biography lists Bradley as the recipient of 19 Emmys, the latest for a segment that reported the reopening of the 50-year-old racial murder case of Emmett Till. Bradley recently was bestowed a Lifetime Achievement award from the National Association of Black Journalists.People reports that "in 2003, he won three Emmys: one for lifetime achievement, another for a 60 Minutes report on brain cancer patients, and a third for his special hour coverage of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church."
