Madonna attacks UN ambasadors like Jolie

Nov 9, 2006, 8:01 GMT

Madonna has slammed celebrities who are UN Goodwill Ambassadors - insisting her decision to adopt a baby has done more good.

The 48-year-old singer - who was recently granted an interim adoption of 13-month-old Malawian baby David - has rubbished stars who use their fame to help the UN, such as Nicole Kidman and Angelina Jolie, insisting what she has done is better.

Madonna told TIME magazine: "Look, I could have joined the UN and become an ambassador and visited various countries and just kind of showed up and smiled. But that's not getting to the root of the problem. And, by the way, neither is building an orphan care centre and giving people food and medicine. But it's a start.

"Which is better? That I found out about an issue and instantly wanted to take action, or that it took me years to get my s**t together?"

Earlier this week, Madonna insisted that normal people don't care that she has adopted a Malawian baby.

She said: "I don't think people really give a s**t.

"But when you throw in things like I'm a celebrity and I somehow got special treatment, or make the implication of kidnapping, it gets mixed into a stew and it sells lots of papers.

"But care? People don't care and the media certainly doesn't care. What they should care about is that there are over a million orphans in Malawi, and following me around is just a gross misappropriation of attention and money."

Hypocritical Madonna!Nov 10th, 2006 - 00:15:19

Yeah OK Madonna! Like you would have EVER been interested in adopting a dark skin African child? WE ALL KNOW that had it not been for Angelina & Brad adopting two of their children in Cambodia & Africa YOU WOULD NOT BE INTERESTED NOW! Poor African & other International kids have always needed families to adopt them - so why do it this year Madonna? Why? Because Angelina Jolie has been getting international press coverage like no other person on the planet for her adoptions - that's why! Angelina & Nicole Kidman are doing a great job for the UN. Madonna could care less what those two, Bono or Oprah Winfrey are doing for the UN....shame on her! Being a UN Ambassador is a wonderful thing.

Madonna goes wherever the publicity mill is rested most AT THAT TIME. A few years ago when Christina Aguilera & Britney Spears were all over Billboard charts, MTV and the Media for their alleged feud - Miss Madonna jumped on THAT bandwagon too by inviting both singers to go on MTV with her & planned that infamous 3-way kiss. As Britney would later say, Madonna planned the whole thing.Going back even further when Dennis Rodman was all the rage in the NBA Madonna went for him too....showing up anywhere she could with him. She had even asked him to Father her child(she even admitted to that). Just two examples!

So Madonna at 48yrs better realize this Beautiful African child is for the next 18yrs of her life not temporary! I hope her heart is in the right place. The baby is not a game or a MTV jingle!

Whatever!Nov 10th, 2006 - 00:59:43

Madonna has been supporting causes in Africa and globally since 1983, funny how some like to blast her when they clearly do not know what they are talking about...What does it matter when she decided to adopt in the first place? She has been funding these causes since 1983. Being an ambassador is just a title it means little its what you do or have done that should count. Madonna was fighting AIDS from the very start when it was not the IT thing to do , others ran like hell. She has spent millions to help people with HIV, Leukemia, 911, Katrina victims, Habitat for humanity the list goes on and on. So YOUR wrong, Madonna has donated millions more than just about everyone you have listed and she started with her very first royality check in 1983, she has supported friends with AIDS, donated millions upon millions to childrens charities , even gave every cent off all 6 of her childrens books to charity, millions from every tour have went to charity, free tickets were provided to the disabled. Madonna did not just jump on the wagon she was one of the first to get on board. This is just one of her latest efforts do research first before you bash, and tell us what do you do? Who do you help? How many of your friends have you supported who were seriouslly ill? Funny how people fuss when they do nothing for anyone but themselves...

Madonna Baby BluesNov 14th, 2006 - 05:03:02

Yeah Madonna has been a great humanitarian throughout her career. She WAS ONE OF THE DEDICATED CELEBRITIES TO AIDS AWARENESS WHEN OTHERS COULD CARE LESS. Yeah Madonna adopting an African baby is a wonderful thing. This little boy's life is already thousands of times better. But I think why many people are so angry with Madonna is would she really really truly truly have been interested in adopting a Black African child had it not been potrayed as tres-chic in the media? C'mon Madonna is a smart woman & she's been in the biz for over 20yrs. She's no Britney Spears! Sorry Britney but it's the truth.Madonna could have found a zillion other ways to help the less fortunate. Now she & baby are being photographed everywhere like crazy all over again just like her Sean Penn days.Or more like present days - Brangelina style. That's why so many people are giving Madge a hard time cause her star-international-adoption comes at such a trendy time hmmm? Well good for Madonna, giving this baby a better life is Great Thing.

Don't Knock The UNNov 14th, 2006 - 05:30:48

To Whatever: Ok so being a UN Goodwill Ambassador IS A TITLE bestowed on a person who agrees to the terms & conditions to represent the organization on its behalf. Famous people like Angelina Jolie & Nicole Kidman are good examples of taking their volunteer jobs seriously. They don't have to. So don't knock them for trying. Madonna thinks adopting a child is much better? Well Angie & Nicole both have that covered too cause they both have two adopted kids from different backgrounds. Nicole & Tom Cruise have an adopted bi-racial(Black/White)son too.
The sad reality is WE regular people don't care to listen to Anderson Cooper, CNN or to the Doctors, Nurses & Aid workers who travel the world & talk about International Devastation. It's terrible that when beautiful actresses like Angelina & Nicole report back to Hollywood, UN & the Media about Global poverty that WE actually stop & pay attention.
