"Walk the Line" Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon has filed for divorce from Ryan Phillippe, citing “irreconcilable differences.” Papers were filed in Los Angeles Superior Court in Los Angeles on Wednesday, reports People magazine and TMZ.com.
In court papers, Witherspoon, 30, asks for joint custody of the couple's two young children. This would allow Phillipe visitation rights.
Witherspoon, in papers, also requests that the court not grant spousal support for Phillippe. A publicist for the couple first announced their separation on Oct. 30th.
Phillippe hasn't commented on reports that he and Australian actress Abbie Cornish of Aussie film Somersault fame had a relationship on the set of their recent movie in Texas.
He stated to People magazine, “I’m not a perfect person, but I’m not guilty of a lot of the things I have been accused of. My priority is and always has been the health and safety of my family."
Abbie Cornish was reported by The New York Post's Page Six.com to be "missing" from all her public engagements. According to Richard Johnson, "Cornish was a no-show at her own screening, hosted by the Cinema Society and Cole Haan."
