HOLLYWOOD - Actor, director and producer Mel Gibson has been feted for his "vision and courage" by a Latin American business group for his new movie Apocalypto, shot in Mexico.
Apocalypto is set in the ancient Mayan empire which is now Mexico and Central America and utilized an entirely local cast and production crew.
Gibson commented on the lack of star power for this film, "It was tantamount to being at the Super Bowl and getting your quarterback from the audience. But they scored touchdown after touchdown. I don't know why no one has gone down there before."
Huzzahs were heard from the Los Angeles-based Latin Business Association yesterday, who are pleased with the illuminating and educating way their community and indian roots are portrayed on screen.
