Madonna to talk adoption with Oprah

Oct 24, 2006, 11:10 GMT

Madonna will appear on the Oprah Winfrey show on Thursday (26.10.06) to defend her adoption of Malawian orphan David.

The singer will appear on the US chat show and respond to the revelations by David's father Yohane Banda that he never intended to give up his son "for good".

A spokesman for the show said: "You've read the headlines, heard the rumours and seen the photos.

"Now, for the first time, Madonna speaks out with her side of the story on the adoption controversy."

The 48-year-old mother of two will tell Oprah about her decision to adopt the 13-month-old boy after visiting his orphanage and reveal whether she will keep him in touch with African roots.

A spokesman for Madonna yesterday (23.10.06) insisted David will be "free to live wherever he wants" when he turns 18.

Madonna has been granted 18 months of foster care for David while she applies to legally adopt him but human right campaigners plan to launch a legal battle to prove that she side stepped Malawi's strict adoption laws.

David's father put him in the care of the orphanage after his mother died, and he now claims he believed Madonna was only going to raise and educate his son before returning him to Malawi.

Who cares what Madonna does or doesn't do. She is a mere spec in the whole realm of what is important.

A child that has been destined to grow up in orphanage is surely facing a bit better future being adopted by Madonna or any other person who will provide a loving home.
A loads of stupidity has been said about this adoption.Anybody who knows anything about the life of orphaned children in Africa or elsewhere knows that this lucky kid has escaped a lifetime of poverty and sadness.
Why is the kid not living with his father,by the way???He has a major job to run so he has just left him in orphanage for a while(first 20 years of his life???!!!)
All the best to Madonna and her new child

What always perplexes me is why these mega stars do not adopt children from the United States. There are so many children in foster homes that need parents. You must admit, these foreign adoptions are part publicity-related.

Banda's biological family is trying to take advantage of Madonna. First, the kid has no relatives and lives in an orphanage. Next thing, relatives are spilling out of the woodwork, and want to be a part of his life. They are using the child to get a visa into Madonna's mansion, so they can keep making outrageous demands. They are using both the kid, and Madonna, and it is a very sad situation.

I'm glad Madonna's speaking out. BUT, it's not like anyone will care. Most people have their minds made up already because they're so closed-minded.
As for celebrities not adopting from the US...they're not the only ones. Plenty of non-celebs adopt from overseas every year. Many of the children in orphanages in other countries (especially in developing nations) will die very easily from diseases that American orphans will not even be exposed to or from things that would be easily cured here in the US. American orphans aren't living the good life, but for the most part, they're not dying of things like malaria and famine or living in huts without running water. The need is large in the US, but it's larger in poor nations.

So why don't Madonna and all of these extreme rich people assist the orphanages with education and medical benefits in their own countries and encourage these children to work for a better world there? That would be the real service. Many of these 'orphans' do have families. They are unable to take care of them for various reasons. How many Americans, that had family still alive, were put into orphanages during the depression? Should we have shipped these people to different countries? No, they are not for sale. Maybe Madonna should move there and help raise this child.

Come on ! Madonna donated USD3,000,000 to Malawis orphanage. Don't you think it's a SURE bet she will get whatever child is available in those orphanages ! Malawi is a very poor country and they are more than willing to change their laws, just put the right sum.

Madonna was described as being a 'nice Christian lady'. Since when Madonna is a Christian ??? She's mocking Christian faith in her shows !
