London - Former Beatles member Paul McCartney on Thursday rejected allegations of abuse made by his wife Heather Mills McCartney with whom he is engaged in a bitter divorce battle.
In a statement issued through his lawyers, the 64-year-old pop star said he would be defending himself 'vigorously' against the allegations in court.
A court document lodged by Mills McCartney's lawyers that was leaked to the media purported that McCartney had struck his 38-year- wife at least four times.
McCartney's statement issued Wednesday evening in London said he 'would very much like to respond in public and in detail to the allegations' but that 'the only correct forum' for such a response was the courtroom.
The McCartneys decided to divorce this summer after four years of marriage.
The divorce proceedings will centre on the singer's 825-million- pound (1.543-billion-dollar) estate and custody of the couple's two- year-old daughter Beatrice.
