Father of Anna Nicole Smith's baby is revealed

By Stone Martindale Sep 27, 2006, 3:12 GMT

Howard K. Smith, an attorney representing spokesmodel and television star Anna Nicole Smith said Tuesday he is the father of her daughter, born earlier this month in the Bahamas live on Larry King.

"Anna and I have been in a relationship and we love each other, and it's been going on for a very long time, and because of my relationship as her lawyer, we felt that it was best to keep everything hidden," Howard K. Stern told CNN's "Larry King Live."

Stern said to King that he and Smith are confident he is the father, and "based on when the timing of when the baby was born, there really is no doubt in either of our minds."

Entertainment reporter and photographer Larry Birkhead also claims to be the father of the girl, named Danilynne Hope.

In a statement, Birkhead said Smith told him he is the child's father, and that he has proof.

He said he accompanied Smith to doctors' appointments until a "minor disagreement" took place while she was pregnant. He suggested a DNA test be conducted to determine the child's paternity. He also made similar comments to "Entertainment Tonight."

In response to Birkhead, Stern said, "I think, first, you have to look at what his motives are. If he honestly believed he was the father, based on when the baby was born, he should have handled it appropriately ... handle it through the proper channels, not through television and through the media."

Birkhead also has sent "a slew" of e-mails to Smith, Stern said, calling it "just completely inappropriate."

"Anna has had problems with people going to the media in the past about her, and for that reason, most people around her, including myself, have signed confidentiality clauses that we won't go to the media about her," Stern said. "I'm just very shocked at how he's handled this, under the circumstances."

Asked whether Smith and Birkhead had a relationship, Stern said, "she never considered him her boyfriend." He would not comment on whether Smith was intimate with Birkhead.

Stern commented on the trauma of Daniel's sudden and unexpected death, saying Smith had to be sedated to cope.

Stern would not comment on funeral plans for Daniel Smith.

Larry King asked how Smith was doing, Stern said, "She's having a tough time of it. I can't really imagine being in any worse condition. She has help, she's doing the best she can, but you know, this is a really tough thing to deal with."

The baby, he said, "is the one ray of hope. It's the one thing that's really keeping her going."

I smell something 'fishy' and its the size of a 'lawyer'....I'd check him out..cause..hmmmmm Anna's son is dead..so that makes him no longer an issue with the inheritance if Anna wins...but that does put the new baby girl into the picture...and hmmmmm the Lawyer claims to be the Dad....and Anna son mysteriously died of a over-dose..and the lawyer just so happen to be in the room.......THE LAWYER IS TRYING TO PULL OFF THE PERFECT CRIME.

I agree the whole affair does seem quite fishy. How could the hired pathologist know, beyond a shadow of doubt, that the death was accidental? Could he see through a window in time? Of course not. Therefore, the claim is merely speculatory at best.

Or perhaps because the pathologist is an expert? Remember, Ken Lay was also an expert at running a phony corporation. No one questioned him until it was too late, and look what happened. So being an expert doesn't automatically imply a code of ethics or morality.

Additionally, anyone who marries a wealthy tycoon on his deathbed, only to demand the estate a mere year later, does leave serious questions about ethical behavior. Reminds me of the film 'Black Widow'. Yet it would be the perfect irony, and media event of the year, if the lawyer is indeed up to no good, the ex-hunter becoming the hunted.

Something is certainly amiss here. Yet if it is some nefarious plot or something, we'll be treated to a popcorn and soda OJ style event 24/7 on network TV, it'll be the media event of the year!

I believe that everyone ought to just leave Howard K. Stern alone and let him grieve like we all know that he has not had a chance to do. Between the paternity fights and the fight for Anna's body and Anna's stupid mother trying to cause problems, this poor man hasnt had a chance to even cry without the media being right in his face snapping pictures. This world is crazy. Not to mention this world is sorry and disrespectful. Anna Nicole's Mother Vergie, she is just as stupid and sickening as all of these money hungry men claiming to be this baby's daddy. Larry Birkhead, the prince, sick sick people. I mean let Howard raise his daughter and be happy and try to make the best out of what has tragically happened and let him raise his daughter right and love her and tell her all about her mommy without there always being someone in his face to take his picture of record him on video. EVERYONE LEAVE HOWARD ALONE!!!!!
