Gary Barlow's drug hell
Sep 25, 2006, 17:02 GMT
Gary Barlow smoked 15 joints a day after being dropped from his record label.
The former Take That singer revealed he felt so depressed when record giants BMG decided to drop him as a solo artist in 2000, that he lost himself in a marijuana haze.
He confessed: "For months after that phone call, I would slob about, unshaven, in the same tracksuit every day.
"No one called or stopped by and I wouldn't have wanted to see them if they had. I was smoking 15 spliffs most days.
"At the end of the night, I would smoke only half my last joint so when I woke up I could have the other half before reality set in.
"I would find myself studying my old songs, trying to find the art I had completely lost. I couldn't stop crying."
The songwriter also revealed in his autobiography 'My Take' that he realised his career was over when Victoria Beckham denied working with him and Madame Tussauds got rid of his statue.
He revealed: "A newspaper had asked Victoria if she was working with me and reported that she had denied it.
"People were obviously embarrassed to be associated with me.
"And then the most devastating blow of all. Madame Tussauds melted down my dummy because they needed the wax to make Britney Spears."
