Meryl Streep's Prada dilemma
Sep 25, 2006, 12:56 GMT
'The Devil Wears Prada' star Meryl Streep can't wear the designer's shoes.
However, the actress - who plays a tyrannical fashion magazine editor in the film - says it's not the fault of the Italian fashion house.
Meryl explained: "I own one pair of Prada shoes. They make my feet hurt.
"It's not the shoes' fault: they are exquisitely made. I blame my feet. I've got my mother's feet."
The film is based on a best-selling book written by a former staffer at Vogue magazine.
Meryl - who is best known for her roles in films including 'Out of Africa', 'Death Becomes Her' and 'Sophie's Choice' - recently lashed out at Hollywood "sexist" culture, accusing it of deliberately demonising older women.
Meryl, 57, even insisted she will abandon her acting career if there are no positive roles for women her age.
She pledged: "These are roles they write for women my age. So maybe there's something in society that sees older women this way. Usually, we're gorgons or dragons, in some way grotesque.
"What films have you seen lately with serious roles for 50-year-old women in the lead?"
