Mischa Barton: I loved me
Sep 21, 2006, 16:23 GMT
Mischa Barton has admitted she was turning into a self-obsessed Hollywood brat.
The brunette actress, who recently quit her role as Marissa Cooper in hit US show 'The O.C.', has confessed her ego was spiralling out of control during her time on the series.
Mischa, 20, thinks it is an occupational hazard that all actors suffer from because they need to be selfish to succeed.
She said: "I was becoming too high maintenance. Actors start talking about themselves as if they are the most important people on Earth - I was no different. We have to have a big belief in ourselves. For most of us all it's all about, 'Me, me, me.' It's a mad business.
"You play so many characters, and have to almost try to become them. The self-absorption can take over your life. And the younger you are, the worse it can become."
Now she has realised she needs to keep her ego in check, Mischa - who was alleged to have thrown a number of tantrums and repeatedly called in sick shortly before leaving 'The O.C.' - admits she is lucky to have enjoyed so much success at such a young age
She added: "At times I've thought to myself, 'I don't deserve this.' But I don't deserve anything I'm 20, for goodness sake." http://thesuperficial.com/2006/09/mischa_barton_is_a_dirty_hippi.html
