Janet Jackson has stated to the press she "was once tricked into taking liquid cocaine, believing it was a medication she could use to cure a sore throat."
The pop superstar says she was enduring a painful sore throat before a concert in Japan some years ago, when a doctor suggested he could rememdy it.
In a recent Los Angeles radio interview, Jackson said, "He gave me some liquidy stuff and it helped me so much... It was in a vial."
But Jackson later learned the medication was liquid cocaine - something ear, nose and throat physicians sometimes use legally to dull tissue pain.
Upon learning she had actually ingested cocaine, the singer admitted she "broke down into tears" when the medic offered her more medication.
She explained, "I started crying and told him to take it - that I didn't want it."
