Ronnie Wood-land
Sep 18, 2006, 14:28 GMT
Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood is creating his own forest - to try and combat global warming.
The musician has teamed up with The CarbonNeutral Company to plant a new forest in Mozambique, which has been in a state of civil war for almost 20 years.
Ronnie is offering fans the chance to buy their very own tree in the Ronnie Wood Wood for £17.50.
Every person who pays for a sapling or tree will receive a certificate of ownership designed by the rocker - who is also an acclaimed artist. Fans can see the certificate design on his website www.ronniewood.com.
A spokesman for The CarbonNeutral Company said: "The trees soak up carbon dioxide, so they are helping protect our climate."
The forest will be situated in or near Mozambique's Gorongosa National Park.
The site is currently under threat because the refugees living there are cutting down the existing trees for charcoal and hunting the wildlife for food.
Both Ronnie and The CarbonNeutral Company are working closely with the Plan Vivo forestry project, run by Envirotrade, which aims to support the local N'hambita community by restoring the park and its surrounding area.
