John Travolta's attorney Martin Singer has released a statement defending his client against gay rumors after the Hairspray star was photographed by hidden paparazzi intimately kissing another man before flying him on board his private jet.
Travolta's wife Kelly Preston was on board the plane which transported the actor and the recipient of the kiss, their male nanny home to the US from Ontario, Canada.
TMZ and other websites have published the photo in question, which has spurred Travolta's lawyer Singer to end reports Travolta's new cross-dressing role as Edna Turnblad in Hairspray had somehow turned the actor gay.
Singer says, "As a manner of customary greeting and saying farewell, Mr Travolta kisses both women and men whom he considers to be extremely close friends.
"People who are close to Mr Travolta are aware of his customary, non-romantic gesture."
The Globe hired body language expert Lillian Glass to review the photo. She alleges the photo of Travolta kissing the nanny is more than just a friendly gesture.
"John appears to be really enjoying it. His head is leaning upwards, his lips are puckered, his body is leaning in to the guy... It appears to be quite intimate." Said Glass in The Globe.
