George Clooney has called on the United Nations to help stop the war in Darfur.
The 'Ocean's Thirteen' actor - who has visited the war torn region several times - joined Nobel Prize winner Elie Wiesel for an informal briefing in New York yesterday (14.09.06) to voice an appeal for help to the UN Security Council.
He said: "The United States has called it genocide. For you it's called ethnic cleansing. But make no mistake, it is the first genocide of the 21st century. And if it continues unchecked, it will not be the last."
Clooney said he understood there were several "sensible reasons" why little action had been taken to prevent the atrocities so far.
One of the reasons the actor was referring to, was the decision by the ruling government in the region to prevent deployment of 20,000 UN peacekeeping troops in Darfur last month (08.06).
However, Clooney insisted during his address that whatever the reason was preventing peace "it's not good enough."

That is a nice juster. If he was to do an auction to find a normal young lady, the bids couldn't be for a lot of money and the money would still help his Charity over in North Africa. Even if he went to every state in the United States and auction himself for an evening out on the town with him with a nice lady, it would be a nice juster. (I would be one of the candiates). He is a very nice guy from what I have read and seen regarding his life history. We need more people like him. He is a very open, honest and fair young man, which mean a lot to the people of this world today. Not a lot of people are like him, which make him different and unique. That is what keeps him interesting.

Since Mr. Clooney has such a difficult time with the paparazzi, why doesn't he take that blood money and do something for the poor in Dafaur? He wants to date famous actresses well then put it in the form of a contest where funds can be raised by the actresses or make a spectacle of some sort by way of dating a famous person OR date just normal person and raise money for a charity that way. I am SURE women would love to bid to spend a luncheon with Mr. Clooney and he would be donating time and perhaps meeting some interesting people for a worthy cause. In the meantime, provided word doesn't leak out, the press would not know who he was dating. All good! Then he could lead his private life and have his public life and do some good for others.
Just a thought.
