Rosie O’Donnell and “The View”: Smoke signals rising

The View began its 10th season with O'Donnell replacing Star and Meredith's slots, joining veterans Joy Behar, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Barbara Walters at the Klatch helm.

The set was updated, a blue-and-orange arena like glass-top version of the famous drop-leaf table the ladies sit around for the "Hot Topics" segment.

There was the usual banter of their children peeing on the floor and taking nude baths with their kids, and in Hasselbeck's case, dressed in a bathing suit.

"How long have we been on the air? Four minutes?" said Walters after the show's more-manic initial pop. She asked O'Donnell, "How do you feel?"

"Really excited to be here, and kind of ecstatic," O'Donnell shared.

Just one week after its return to air, insiders are making publicists work overtime to deny.. deny.. deny, but allegedly there are problems brewing on The View, and the situation is such that questions kicking around are: Will O’Donnell make it through one season?

TMZ.com reports that Rosie has “not been received kindly by her co-hosts, and that Elisabeth Hasselbeck in particular has been openly hostile to her.”

O'Donnell has allegedly had issues with the production of the show and with the schedule. TMZ reports on her very first day, after the entire studio audience was comped a complimentary two-day cruise, O'Donnell “complained on-air about that confetti didn't drop on cue from the ceiling to shower the audience, that the promo was an unusually long one, and that a two-day cruise seemed somewhat skimpy, whether or not it was a giveaway.”

Uber power publicist Cindi Berger told TMZ, "None of that is true. Everyone gets along great. Elisabeth is planning to go up to Rosie's house with her baby Grace."

They left and Rosie arrived. It doesn't really matter whose place she took, if any. It isn't like one of them can't come back because she is there and she has their place.

At the same time, the show had its best moments. It has 'jumped the shark' and it is time to cancel it and move on.

For years, I have watched The View and thoroughly enjoyed it. But since Rosie's arrival, I must confess that I probably will not watch it again until I hear that Rosie is through. She has TAKEN over the show and made Barbara, Joy and Elisabeth look like puppets, whose ideas are not worth a whit. And her idea of potty humor and as well as a mouth that needs to be washed out with soap is destroying your program.

Please Barbara, make Rosie's stay on the View a SHORT one before you lose a lot more viewers.

I think the show is better since she came on board! It was getting stale if you ask me. Who could be more overbearing than Joy! Who does Elizabeth think she is anyway......did she not come from a game show!

Rosie O'Donnell owes every American an apology after her 'radical Christianity' comments. I will not watch 'The View' until she is gone. Stick up for yourself Elizabeth and Joy. You do not have to take such nonsense from Rosie. Hope to see you again soon.

Rosie comes across as being very angry with life in general. Her remarks regarding radical christians was not justified nor factual. Since she has such a loud voice she is able to talk over everyone else on the show. I won't watch as long as she is on.

OutragedSep 15th, 2006 - 09:42:30

While I will defend to the death Rosie O'Donnell's RIGHT to say whatever she pleases, I will also exercise my RIGHT to respond. My response is multi-faceted.

First, I want to identify her statements as clearly irrational. There is no evidence anywhere to support her outrageous allegations of parity between the two religious groups. The making of such statements reflects the inability to think clearly.

Second, I will exercise my right to make choices that reflect my outrage at those who support and endorse Rosie's statements. I will no longer watch programs aired by ABC. For ABC to fail to take immediate and substantial action against Rosie is tantamount to endorsement. I will also begin a written response to advertisers of The View, letting them know that if they do not cease their advertising support of the program (a choice that is completely up to them) I will exercise my right to determine where I spend my money, and make decisions to do so by choosing to not spend my money on their products.

Third, I will begin speaking to my friends and encouraging them to also consider more carefully how and where they spend their hard earned dollars.

Fourth, if and when ABC decides to make a response to Rosie's statements, I will view the response, consider whether it is of sufficient magnitude and appropriate timing to merit a change of action on my part.

Fifth, I will make statements and take actions that reflect my outrage at a broadcasting entity that continually supports statements that are irrational and totally without merit, bashing the Christian community.

Rosie may want to keep her bigotry to herself regarding Christians in America.
I was going to watch the show until she spewed that bit of hatred out.
Im done and Im sure Im not the only one.

I feel that they should get rid of Rosie. They way she talks about her wife or husband what ever she is Yuck And then today she talking about wearing maternity underwear of some one else's that is just plan gross. I've been watching the show since it came on but lately i've been changing channels. They should just have Joy and Elizabeth and Barbara on with special co host when Barbara is away. I also don't like the way she talks about the way her kids call mommy kelly so is she mommy rosie or daddy rosie lol. So please get her off soon or you'll lose me and alot more people.
Thank you

Gail

Rosie has totally taken over. She's louder and as opinionated as ever. You can't hear
what the other's say and why does she think her opinions are the only right ones?
I feel for Barbara and Elizabeth, they try to be ladies and put out other opinions and she steamrolls over them.

Years ago when she first had her program she was pleasant and fun to watch. Then she changed and that made her program less pleasant. Now she just has to hurt everyone by spouting her opinion constantly.
What has happened to Her? I decided today, no longer to watch.
