Jessica Simpson's small offer
Sep 7, 2006, 15:40 GMT
Jessica Simpson offered ex-husband Nick Lachey just $1.5 million of the $36 million they earned as a married couple in their divorce settlement.
Before they were married, Jessica refused to sign a pre-nuptial agreement so both she and Nick were entitled to 50 per cent of their joint earnings, mainly generated from the hugely popular MTV show 'Newlyweds'.
The 'Dukes of Hazzard' actress reportedly began by offering Nick a measly $1.5 million share of their fortune.
The amount is believed to have been suggested by Jessica's father and manager Joe Simpson, who didn't believe his former son-in-law had the stomach to put up a battle in court for his rightful share.
According to website TMZ.com, Nick will receive more than the original $1.5 million offered, but has agreed to accept less than 50 per cent in the settlement, to avoid a messy court case.
A friend of Nick's said: "Nick agreed to end the dispute because he doesn't want anyone to get hurt."
A figure has now been agreed but is yet to be filed in court.
Since the split Jessica has been unlucky in love while Lachey is enjoying a happy relationship with MTV presenter Vanessa Mannillo.
