Sean Connery calls Hollywood helmer “insane”

By Stone Martindale Aug 27, 2006, 17:54 GMT

Veteran actor Sir Sean Connery didn’t hold back at a recent BAFTA event in Scotland, unleashing a scathing verbal attack on the Hollywood film industry and accusing it of ruining his latest film, The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

The former James Bond star was in his home town of Edinburgh, Scotland, where he was presented with a BAFTA Scotland Award for Outstanding Achievement in Film.

Connery, celebrating his 76th birthday, announced the end of his 50-year Hollywood career with direct criticism in a tirade against an industry he accused of incompetence and unprofessionalism.

Connery said, "The time has come because of my rather unfortunate last movie. The cost to me in terms of frustration and avoiding going to jail for murder cannot have continued."

Connery went on to describe the director of The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen Stephen Norrington as being "insane".

He said, "He was young and enthusiastic. I presumed someone wouldn't give a person $84 million to go to a wonderful city like Prague without due diligence."
