I can't believe that people that propose to love horses will not look into the very real threat of animal cruelty, starvation and pain for horses if HR 503 passes in Congress prohibiting the sale of horses for slaughter. This will take away one option for horse owners that have to dispose of old, unwanted, crippled animals and will devalue horses with no market for their property. This is a terrible thing to do to not only the horse industry but to the animals involved.
If you lived in an area that raises horses, not just Willie or Bo type horses, you would be more apt to understand the harm they are doing in supporting this type of legislation. Small animal pounds exist, but try to find a place for 80,000 horses nationwide. I can't even begin to imagine what will happen to all the horses in Montana, alone that will be needing a place to be disposed. They will be put out to roam where ever they can. It will take a bigger pound than anyone of us could find and we would have to have a Willie and Bo type bank account to try.
Please reconsider the harm you are doing to the horse industry and to many thousands of horses that are not protected by celebrities and their money..
Most average citizens don't have the ability to bury, cremate or dispose of unwanted horses at a cost of 500 to 1000 dollars.
