Johannes Mocken, a spokesman for the prosecutors in Dusseldorf, said that a repeat of the crucifiction scene during Madonna concert could be construed as insulting religious beliefs.
As a result, German authorities will be keeping a close eye on Madonna's concert this Sunday in Dusseldorf to see if Madge performs a controversial mock crucifixion scene that has ticked off the collective Catholic world.
Madonna has mastered performance art disguised as social commentary on stage, but in doing so has sparked outrage among religious leaders by wearing a crown of fake thorns while performing on a mirrored cross.
Representatives for Madonna insist the scene is not disrespectful toward the church.
Mocken said authorities would rely on media reports rather than sending observers to the concert and that the show might be covered by law protecting artistic freedoms.
