Its deplorable that a parent wouldn't have the common sense to prevent their children from smoking. I'm not one of those people who wants smoking banned everywhere or anything, but when a child, and 17 is a child, is smoking illegally with the help of their parent that is just wrong. She's done a lot of stupid things in the past, but this one takes the cake. Shame on Mel.

Actually only 30% of people who smoke actually die from smoking related illnesses. It's not 100% like people make it out to be. Still, it is a risk. However, statistics show that in the next few years, obesity (and the problems it brings) *will overtake* smoking as the number one cause of preventable deaths. So moms and dads, think of that the next time you give your kid that artery hardening cheeseburger and fries, or that fat-forming jelly donut. That's just as lethal.

You dont eat cheeseburges every 15 minutes-do you? The aroma of a cheeseburge does not kill innicent bystanders now does it?

Once in a while, a burger - in the scheme of things- is anywhere near the lethality of cigarette smoke-second hand or inhaling.

You must work for a cigarette manufacturer

I'm not going to give advice or anything, but Smoking is bad for you no matter what!! That means NOBODY should be smoking a cigarette!!!! Not even Melanie! Does she like want to get lung cancer or something because, heck, even I know Smoking can kill and I'm only 12!!!!!!!!! So get a life Melanie Griffith and don't take you're daughter's life while you're at it!!!!!!!!

What surprises you people? Hollywood is full of misfit losers that get paid way to much for doing nothing more than reading someone else’s very talented writing. (and no I am not a writer.) Hollywood people are soooo disconnected from mainstream society and a clear vision of right vs. wrong. What Mel did does not surprise me at all. Goes right along with the rest of that screwed up town and the idiots living there!

So what! At least she is with her daughter and not on the arm of someone other than her 'main squeeze'. If there is love in their hearts, so what if they smoke! Like that is the worse thing in the world you can do!!!!!!! Honestly, get a life and let them live their's the way they want, just like the rest of us want to live ours! They don't need to explain to anyone. Are we paying their bills? Everyone has the right to live the way they feel works for them. If it isn't hurting anyone else, so what!

It's not surprising that Melanie, who is known for a sewer mouth, would have a cig hanging out of her filthy mouth. It appears that it's more important to her to have the public view her as a 'modern mom' who lets her kids do what they want than to be a strict mom who raises her kids to be healthy as well as smart. It appears that Dakota must take after her tramp mom, too bad. Another Hollywood kid down the drain, tsk.
