Madonna becomes honorary Brit
By M&C News Aug 3, 2006, 0:11 GMT
Madonna has unveiled a bronze cast of her hands outside Wembley Arena, becoming the first star to be honored in the venue's new “Square of Fame.”
The bronze tribute, unveiled by “Madge” on Tuesday, features her handprints on a pavement plaque in an area that will ostensibly rival Hollywood's legendary Walk of Fame and infamous Grauman’s Chinese Theater, which features various star body imprints from years past.
Madonna will be joined by a host of global stars who will also leave their impressions on the Wembley development.
Madonna's unveiling coincides with the start of eight Wembley Arena dates, as the pop star continues her Confessions Tour in the UK.
The singer, who played the first of eight dates at the venue on Tuesday, said it was a "great honor" that made her "feel like an honorary Brit."
Wembley hopes to add Kylie Minogue and George Michael casts in coming months.
Madonna heading back to rehearsal said: "I look forward to seeing other artists adding their handprints alongside mine…No matter how many concerts you do, you still have to do rehearsals."
The tour began in Los Angeles in May, and 21 European dates kicked off in Cardiff on Sunday.
