Pete Doherty undertakes drastic measure to kick habit
By M&C News Jul 14, 2006, 16:25 GMT
Popular Babyshambles lead man, Pete Doherty will have an approved implant inserted into his body to help wean him off opiates, according to reports from the UK media. The implant should chemically inhibit the effects of opiates.
Doherty told Thames Magistrates Court “he wants to have the device fitted within two weeks.”
Doherty was appearing at a review of his progress in drug rehabilitation.
The 27-year-old ex of Kate Moss was late for the court appearance.
Doherty graciously greeted fans who came to offer support and wishes for his recovery outside the court. Websites and editorials across the world overwhelmingly show fans want the troubled rocker to regain his health, and continue his creative songwriting and performances. Doherty is too important a talent to be consumed by the disease of addiction, and hopefully will find a way to beat it.
He is undergoing drug treatment at the order of the court following a December arrest in which police discovered an assortment of illegal drugs in his possession. Doherty was arrested once more on April 20.
