Kiwi “catcher” gave Kidman’s wedding bouquet away
By M&C News Jul 6, 2006, 3:51 GMT
The Kiwi guest who caught Nicole Kidman's wedding bouquet says she gave the flowers away, because they could not be taken back home to New Zealand.
New Zealander Evelyn White, a friend of groom Keith Urban's parents, said the bouquet landed near her after Kidman's traditional toss from a balcony missed a group of women waiting to catch it.
"What can a girl do when it falls at her feet?" Ms White told the New Zealand Herald.
Ms White, a retirement village manager, said she was delighted to grab the cluster of peonies, gardenias and roses at the wedding last month in Sydney but did not think it was a sign.
"I'd love to get married again, but there was no wedding bell in front of that bouquet."
White put to rest any rumors she had knocked off any other women, including actress Naomi Watts, to win the coveted bouquet.
New Zealand's bio-security laws would make it near impossible to take the floral arrangement home, Ms White said she offered individual flowers to other guests. White wound up giving the bouquet to Urban's parents, Bob and Marienne.
