Tom Cruise 'night' at the ballgame
By M&C News Jun 30, 2006, 21:28 GMT
The fourth of July just wouldn’t be happening without a minor league baseball night game.
The Los Angeles Times reports that tonight's California League game between Lake Elsinore Storm and the High Desert Mavericks will be a Tom Cruise-themed evening of giveaways and fun:
“Besides giving away a Cruise bobblehead -- make that a "bobble-couch," depicting the star in full Oprah couch-jumping mode -- the San Diego Padres' Class-A affiliate will celebrate the "silent birth" of Tom and Katie Holmes' baby, Suri, with a "silent inning," during which no batters will be announced and no music played. "Silent birth," a Church of Scientology teaching, specifies no music and no talking during the birth.”
“Other planned activities include a couch-jumping contest, a Scientology information and sign-up booth and a retrospective of Cruise's movie career.”
The Storm's opponent? The High Desert Mavericks, of course. No doubt in honor of Cruise's character in "Top Gun."
Good times.

from Wikipedia:
The ongoing controversies involving the Church and its critics include:
* Scientology's harassment and litigious actions against its critics and enemies.
* Some critics charge Scientology with being a cult of personality, with much emphasis placed on the alleged accomplishments of its founder.
* Scientologists claim that government files, such as those from the FBI, are loaded with forgeries and other false documents detrimental to Scientology [citation needed], but have never substantiated this accusation.
* Unexplained deaths of Scientologists, most notably Lisa McPherson, allegedly due to mistreatment by other members.
* Scientology's disconnection policy, in which members are encouraged to cut off all contact with friends or family members critical of the Church.[48]
* Criminal activities by Scientologists, both those committed for personal benefit (Reed Slatkin, Gabriel Williams, and others) and those committed on behalf of the Church and directed by Church officials (Operation Snow White, Operation Freakout, Fair Game, and others).
* Claims of brainwashing and mind control.
* Use of high-pressure sales tactics to obtain money from members.
* Lobbying search engines such as Google and Yahoo to omit any webpages that are critical of Scientology from their search engines (and in Google's case, AdSense), or at least the first few search pages (now however, a search for Scientology on Google and Yahoo brings up the Wikipedia page, with both critical and official Scientology websites).
* Differing accounts of L. Ron Hubbard's life, in particular accounts of Hubbard discussing his intent to start a religion for profit. [12]
This last criticism is referenced, among other places, in a May 1980 Reader's Digest article, which quotes Hubbard, 'If a man really wants to make a million dollars, the best way would be to start his own religion.' [49]
First of all, I have no desire to meet Mr. Cruise. He is one of the untalented hacks in Hollywood. Second, if you want to be a noted figure, you must be prepared to take a lot of people poking fun at you and your 'image.' Mr. Cruis has put himself in many situations to have his lifestyle poked at. At least they had the decency to lay off the rumoured 'lifestyle' of the afformentioned Mr. Cruise. Thanks to the Mavericks for this unique theme night.
stupid, nothing better to do?
so redundant.
it's not funny, it's mean! and that's what you're learning to your children?
It look like scientology tactics against Cruise. They are no better.
Grow up.

Enough is enough about Tom Cruise. It's quite disheartning that you people have nothing to write, or say about such an honarable man, irregardles of his minor short comings he has been a standup guy to his fans and all you people who write about him. Its time to stop its becoming boring and tedious.
