I think Reba is pretty.

I've always liked Reba -- in spite of her political affiliation -- and still love her music. She should now also shut up about it. I must say, the Chicks should have just gone on about their business but they are apparently too young to know when to just move on. I love their new CD and am happy they expressed their views on this 'president.' Ugh.

If you read the actual interview on CMT.com , there is no mention that Reba cares about their stance regarding the POTUS. She just mentions that she's disappointed in their slams at country music, country artists and country fans.

Too young? How about being a true 'artist' and saying what you feel...it has nothing to do with being too young.

I'm glad the Chicks are speaking their minds, and telling people what they think, after everything that has happened to the Dixie Chicks since the incident, I no longer care for Country Music like I use to, it's a very shallow industry, Reba not only made jokes about the Chicks this year, but also made jokes about the Chicks at the 2003 ACM Awards show, I don't think the comments that Martie made were expressed out of hatred, or anything like that, she just picked a name, and went with it, cause she said that she was a big Reba fan growing up, and the comments that Reba had made about them previously had been hurtful, I would have said something a whole lot worse than what Martie did about Reba, I for one have never cared for Reba myself!!!

The Dixie Chicks are the best band in country music, and they never should have had to go through the stupidity and nonsense that they've gone through. This is a free country, and they're free to not like a politician. That's their right. And I think that these country music 'fans' who call radio stations to say not to play the Dixie Chicks are out of line. They're trying to bring financial harm to the Dixie Chicks, and punish them, and take away their career, and that's just un-American. It would be like those fans being fired from their job for their political beliefs. It's just wrong. Oh, and by the way, to me, Reba doesn't even register on the musical landscape, while The Dixie Chicks are a musical power house!

Freedom of Speech?Jun 28th, 2006 - 12:10:04

The Dixie Chicks state an opinion and they lose record sales and radio stations quit playing their tunes.

So where is it that they did anything to merit a Constitutional Award for Freedom of Speech?

Expressing an opinion hardly qualifies. They can say whatever they want to but they look like childish little 4 year olds. Trashing the President of the United States of America in a foreign country is in poor taste and classless but they can certainly do it.

But stupid Americans trying to cannonize these 'entertainers' is humorous. It shows just how misguided Americans are today. Buying their CD is not making a political statement, it IS making millionaires richer.

If the feeble-weak minded people who think they are sending a message to the political process is actually accomplishing anything, they are Dumb and Dumber.

I just laugh at these people like the Chicks are laughing all the way to the bank with these suckers money!

It is true, there is a sucker born every minute, but more like every second.

In reading the comments, I think there is some misguided thinking here. This whole thing with the Dixie Chicks is not about freedom of speech, we all inherently have that freedom. It’s all about what you say (intelligence), how you say it (delivery) & where you say it (location).

To voice your distaste for this President on our soil is one thing, on someone else's soil is distasteful. They still have that right, but freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom from repercussions from what you say, where you say it or to whom. What is unique about our country is that those repercussions don't mean jail time or your life, like many other countries. Just as the Dixie Chicks can voice their opinion the fans can voice theirs and it is all uniquely 'American' (responding to a previous comment).

If they had said what they did in a little more intelligent way, in a more appropriate location none of this would be happening.

Even though I disagree with this President & the war, I still think that what the Chicks did was wrong and it has shown me that although they are good singers, they aren't the brightest stars in the sky. This has been reinforced when I saw their interview on TV and their subsequent comments. They seem to be running ‘one taco short of a full combination’!

I agree wholeheartedly with Dale. The Dixie Chicks certainly are entitled to express their beliefs, but I'll bet no one who went to the concert in which they made their initial remarks was there dying to hear what the Chicks thought about politics.

While I thought that initial remark was delivered in bad taste and in the wrong place, what really turned me off was the remark about not wanting fans who might also like Reba or Toby Keith. Before now, I actually had a few of the Chicks CD's and enjoyed them. Guess what? I also happen to love Reba McEntire. Contrary to what the Chicks think, I do 'get it.' While Reba may have her own political views, she doesn't tell me, as her fan, what I am supposed to believe, or cut me off because I don't think the way she does. Slamming her made no sense, and just showed the immaturity of these girls.

I do not understand why people make an issue of the fact that The comment made in 2003 by Natalie Maines, was made in the UK. Whre does it say in the constitution that Americans only have freedom of speech when they are standing on US soil ? What make you believe that a comment made in the U.S. won't be replayed and or printed in the UK, France, Zimbabwe, tomorrow ? Does it matter to you that UK citizens are fighting side by side with U.S. troops in Iraq ?

Artists, standing on a stage with a microphone do not have any greater rights than the people sitting in the audience. However, the artists do have a microphone ! Natalie Maines was ashamed the president of her country was about to kick off a war in which people would die -- and he was about to do that with no evidence of weapons of mass destruction -the condition Bush had set -up as justification for war. Natalie Maines was concerned that one man, the president of her country, was about to sound thousand of people to die, and there was no hurry to start the dying, and there could have been a requirement that more real reason be found before the fighting, maiming and dying began. So let's all be sure we understand -- she wanted to save lives, but she had no business saying so a few days before the war started because she was performing in the UK. And, she needs to be punished by having her music, and the music of her loyal partners (Emily & Martie) taken off the air. And they need to be ridiculed and criticized for having the guts to stand up and say their 'Not Ready to Make Nice'.

I was a fan before 'the incident' and I'm a bigger fan now. Now I listen to the Dixie Chicks in my home, in my car, and when I'm out running. I rarely listen to country music on the radio any more. I'm too busy listening to the Dixie Chicks. I'm not the only fan who's as turned off to country radio as country radio is turned off to the Dixie Chicks. I hope we're hurting their ratings at leasty as badly as their censorship has hurt the Dixie Chicks.

Arie's a moron, Toby Keith is not corporate, just classy {he left corporate Dreamworks records to make his own music} and 100% red-blooded American. The Chixie Dicks should've just kept playing good music and kept their mouth's shut about things which they don't know, now there music will always be followed by a bad after taste.

More power to the country music establishment and to Reba and Toby as well. I never listened to any of your music before (though I was disgusted by Toby's invoking the image of the Statue of Liberty as a symbol of hatred).

So country music has no room for the Dixie Chicks. Too bad. There's plenty of room in the CD changer in my car (their album is the only full album in that changer right now). They may have lost the support of many of their former fans, but the entire controversy exposed me to the brilliant music contained on their new album.

Enjoy your hatred...I'm sure you can find a biblical quote somewhere in which Jesus encourages you to hate people for making political statements, I'm just not sure where.

I've read all the comments on here...and to be honest...no one is right...no one is wrong...these are opinions expressed freely, without worry of reprecusssions (sp?). Its how everyone should be able to express their opinions. I applaud Natalie for saying what she said, I think more Americans should have stood up and said those exact words. You can be pro USA, you can be a loyal American...however you put to much stalk and faith into one man...your president...and to be honest..in my humble opinion...you put your faith into the wrong person.

I do not like Toby Keith's music..never have...and seeing him in an interview makes me cringe...I don't like his stance, his persona...nothing...that doens't mean I am going to phone my radio stations and tell them not to play his music...it just means i won't buy it. Its a right..a freedom..
Just as its his right to express himself through his music, through his acceptance speeches...

Basically..I guess...I find too many people too concerned about what others are saying and doing...and not concerned enough about the real issue...and that is the fact that your president started a war that should never have been fought, and that you as a country, as a nation, have lost too many sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, neices, nephews and grandchildren ... and here you are all more concerned about what a country band is saying...

so really...what are your priorities...calling a radio station to ban a group...or fighting against the injustice that is going on in iraq...

I don't know how many others feel as I do, but all I can say is I'm just in it for the music. I Love the Dixie Chicks music. I love Reba and Toby too. In fact I pretty much love all country music. There is so little music in any genre that I do not like. As for all of them and there opinions well at least they have them and are not afraid to express them, but as for me... I'm just in it for the music.

I am a country music fan. I was a fan of the Dixie Chicks before Nat's comment, I remained their fans during the unfair treatment of them and I continue to be a fan. I am tired of the Bush and Toby and Reba supporters who continue to twist any word that Nat has ever said. Nat said she was ashamed that the President was from Texas. Period. At the time, at the very least, half of the country was against invading Iraq. Point conveniently overlooked by the Bush administration and his 'cult.' The majority of the hijackers were from Saudi Arabia. So Nat along with half the country didn't buy into the spin for the war. So it became Iraq had 'WMDs'. Then none found, and it became 'Iraqi Freedom.' Just like the now, the Bush adminstration is going after the NY Times for 'leaking' an article. Meanwhile the Bush administration 'leaked' information about the CIA operative because her husband spoke out against the Iraq War. This administration and its 'cult members' strike out against anyone who holds an opposing positions to them. They have instilled fear in many others not to speak out (Bush cult has a lot in common with Saddam) , unless they would too be deemed to be unpatriotic and nonsupportive of the troops. They denounced the Dixie Chicks as unpatriotic while they support flag waving entertainers like Toby Keith and Reba as their examples of patriotism. Yes, Toby spoke of 'putting a boot up their xxx' but meanwhile Toby has no record of military service at all. So in reality Toby lets others do the boot kicking for him (while Toby rakes in the money). But then again so do the majority of the Bush supporters. There was and have been no mass rush to enlist. The majority of the Bush supporters have no record of military service like the majority of the Bush administration in charge of this war. Instead they put ribbons on the bumpers of their SUVs, talk about their dad's military service or their husband's as if it is proves their patriotism, demands that radio doesn't play the Chicks, sit on the Internet and go to Toby's concerts but as I said their patriotism stops when it came to putting on a uniform ever. Yet they think they are the patriotic ones and feel they have the right to call others unpatriotic . Yet they have sat home for the past 3 years calling the Chicks names. After all, Freedom isn't free. Wait that is another LINE FROM A SONG from the very same performer who has never put on a uniform. Those are exactly the type of fans the Chicks don't want and they are exactly the type of 'patriots and patriotism' that the Chicks are speaking out against.

I fear what this country is becoming, if people do not have freedom of speech. I, like many others, feel our president is a puppet. He has to be, because he is a colossal idiot. I am aloud to say that. Everyone is aloud to say that. People (including Chicks) should be able to say these things without fear. If some people don't like Toby or Reba, Who cares Toby and Reba are still going to have tons of people at their concerts.

Not everyone on the planet agrees with what everyone else on the planet says. We can't. We aren't robot/stepford/pod people. What's next? Are we going to have concentration camps for people who don't agree with our Bobble-Headed Dashboard President? They will be full!! I fear this country (on so many levels) has taken a tremendous leap backwards.

See you in the camps!!!

I don't understand all of the small-minded people who let one comment made by the Dixie Chicks create such animosity, do we not live in a country that prides itself on freedom of speech? Or at least we did before 'Homeland Security'. Not to mention that freedom of speech has been used by all those offended by a statement of personal opinion who now feel it necessary to bash the Dixie Chicks.
Have you paid attention to the 'Presidents' approval ratings lately? Most of the USA agrees with what she said; she just had the public forum and guts to say it. Shame on everyone who feels this war is making right for what happened on 9/11. First off, was it Saddam who admittedly blew up those buildings? NO! So why are we looking blindly while innocent families of soldiers lose loved ones in order to allow a 'man of power' to finish a job his daddy failed to finish during his term in office? Have we not lost as many soldiers in the war as we lost in the 9/11 tragedy? Now if we were going after Bin Laden who did admit responsibility maybe I could justify all of the casualties of war.

Let me add, shame on Reba for her cheap off-the-cuff statement on the awards show May 23rd directed at the Dixie Chicks. Is she ready for her son to lose his life in a senseless war? I think the only mistake that Natalie made was actually speaking her mind to a bunch of narrow-minded 'fans' who thought they were an incredible influence before they insulted a small group of people who don't have the sense to look outside the box and see that because of 9/11 we now have lost most of our freedom of speech and privacy after the 'Homeland Security' was created.

Why is there such a hatred toward one small comment? Doesn't anyone watch Jon Stewart or Bill Maher? They criticize the 'President' far worse and yet they are still on the air without death threats.

Get real people, if you can't stand hearing a person's opinion without ostracizing them, then perhaps Texans and all the others that were so greatly offended should 'move to Cuba or some other communistic/dictatorship country'
