According to reporter Kevin Harris of the NewsandTribune.com, “Wolf Challenge founder and PGA Champions Tour professional golfer Fuzzy Zoeller announced Saturday morning at Covered Bridge Golf Club, that international movie star Kevin Costner will play in the 10th annual charity golf tournament on Monday, Aug. 14 at the par-72 course.
Zoeller became friendly with Costner “by competing alongside the actor in the Champions Tour’s Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am tournament the past few years.” Kevin Costner to be joined by PGA pros John Daly and J.B. Holmes for this charity event” according to Harris.
Costner, an avid golfer, has starred in many sports oriented films like “Tin Cup,” “Field of Dreams” and “Bull Durham,” is set to join Zoeller and PGA Tour pros John Daly and J.B. Holmes in this year’s field.
Fuzzy Zoeller’s own foundation, “Fuzzy’s Charities for Kids” will be the beneficiary of part of the earnings of the “Wolf Challenge” which has raised more than $1.3 million for the charity the past several years.
“We kind of threw a bone out there and he was available,” said Zoeller, who said Costner’s rock ‘n’ roll band will play after the Wolf. “Kevin is great with people. Along with J.B. and Johnny, I think we’ll have a tremendous group to have a little fun and raise a lot of money for the kids.”
”Zoeller said Costner will be spotted 14 shots before the foursome tees off because of the actor’s 14 handicap.” Reported Harris.
“We’ll give him his lollipops, the strokes that he will be needing,” Zoeller said in Harris’s report.
The Wolf festivities will begin on Sunday, Aug. 13 with the GreatShot.com Pro-Celebrity Shamble. The tournament will feature several Champions Tour pros like Dana Quigley, Jim Thorpe, Andy Bean, Wayne Levy, Allen Doyle, Gibby Gilbert and Tom Wargo. Along with Costner, celebrities expected to play are Indiana Pacers coach Rick Carlisle and University of Iowa men’s basketball coach and former Indiana University All-American player Steve Alford.
Fuzzy Zoeller Productions, Inc. president and chief operating officer Dave Lobeck said sponsors from all over the United States have become a part of the Wolf Challenge family.
“We have sponsors from New York to California,” Lobeck said. “The Wolf Challenge, because of the show Fuzzy puts on and the facility and the way people welcome sponsors, has become kind of a well-known stop in professional golf. It’s one of the most entertaining stops sponsors can have from what we’ve been told.
“Fuzzy is certainly doing something right when he can get sponsors not just from this area but from all over the country.” All according to Harris for Newsandtribune.com.
