Star Jones “feels like she has been fired” from ‘The View’

By Stone Martindale Jun 27, 2006, 16:50 GMT

Star Jones Reynolds has announced plans to leave her "View" seat after nine seasons on the talk show.

Reynolds made the announcement on Tuesday morning's show.

"I've spent an amazing nine years as a part of The View family, and they have been the most professionally and personally rewarding years of my life," Reynolds said on-air. "Through it all, I have appreciated the support of my family, my friends and most importantly the viewers, and I am grateful for all of the love that has been shown to me…The View is now moving in a new direction, and I will not be returning this fall--but wherever I go, I will carry a lifetime of memories with me."

Rumors of the Star’s impending departure first started in April, when comedian and former talk show host Rosie O'Donnell was named as the successor to Meredith Vieira, who will be co-anchor of the Today show this Fall.

“Barbara Walters' choice of O'Donnell to take over the moderator chair, a gig Reynolds was rumored to have been vying for, led gossip rags and reputable media alike to view the hiring as a passive-aggressive--or in some cases, just aggressive--attempt at edging Reynolds out of the show, a claim Walters denied. Sort of.” According to E! Online.

Walters told the New York Times that she was unconcerned that O'Donnell, who has a well-known history of feuding with Reynolds, would be an unsettling presence for the former prosecutor. "The only concern would be Star's," Walters said. "Rosie will be there. And if Star wants to continue to be there, she is welcome. Star’s part of the View family and will be in The View as long as she wants to."

E! Reports, “not according to Reynolds. The exiting personality told People Magazine that the decision to leave was hardly her own. "What you don't know is that my contract was not renewed for the 10th season," she says in the magazine in its issue on newsstands Friday. "I feel like I was fired."

According to E! Online, “When asked about Reynolds, O'Donnell called her, ‘An interesting woman on many levels. I do not wish her any ill will. I just think it's very hard for everyone to participate in, you know, the illusion that she presents as her truth.’”

I think Rosie will add a breath of fresh air to that stagnet show. Star jones was an anoying part of that program. Afterall, who really cared about what she thought anyway. It was always about her.
Good Ridence I say~

It's Hollywood. If you don't play the 'game' the 'game' will play you. Star didn't play Barbara's game: plain and simple. Star was being mean and not very into respecting others so she got the boot, but she booted back. I know it will put her on that 'list' so it will be hard for her in the future.
Barbara knows how to play the game. She holds the keys to Star's future. All she has to do is make a few calls and Star will not even get to make coffee for Oprah. It is what it is. oooh well.

Like her or not she's smart and will strive. Barbara Walters only holds the keys to her own life not anybody else's. Clearly, Star has a firm believe in God and knows all of this foolishness will come to pass. That show was just a stepping stone for her. Her success will not be measured by The View alone. And contrary to what some people stated, a lot of people cared about what she had to say. Nine years in TV is a long time. Clearly, Rosie won't last long with her outspoken dysfunctional life.

As an occasional watcher, I have respect for all the regulars on The View, but Star Jones Reynolds still stands out. She always presented herself as a person of high moral standing. It is for this reason that I regarded her the most highly of all the panel members.

I try to accept everyone for his or her own value system, and allow him or her the prerogative to be however he or she wants to be — within limits. I can control my own television knob, however, and will do so. I doubt that I shall tune in as frequently as before, because I feel that Barbara Walters' remarks regarding Star's leaving were less than courteous, especially for one of her standing. I admire Miss Walters' brilliant mind as well as her interview and communication skills, but i also recall how reportedly hurt and apparently angry she appeared when she was regularly satired on Saturday Night Live years ago.

Being fired, let go, or not having one's contract renewed (or however it is expressed) is not an easy pill to swallow. Certainly Star must have been hurt, and Miss Walters seemed to hint that were Star to tell less than the truth regarding her being let go (i.e. to take another job, etc.), she (Miss Walters) would back her in her statement. That, to me, seems worse than anything that Star Jones Reynolds did on live TV, or after her annnouncement. Miss Walters was quick to question the 'dignity' of Star Jones Reynolds' method of departure and the aftermath. On close examination, one could well question the 'dignified' manner in which Miss Walters so clearly chastened Star on Wednesday's show.

As for Rosie, I have respect for her, too, for she has never pretended to be anything more or less than she is. I do think she is a genuine person, and no doubt will enliven the show, I am quite disappointed, however, at Barbara Walters' less-than-sympathetic remarks regarding Star. What if she were in Star's shoes (to borrow a well-used expression). Empathy is an attribute; understanding is a virtue. Stage presence notwithstanding, one should practice the second greatest commandment, to which Star Jones Reynolds certainly subscribes. I'm with her in believing I know 'who hold the future.'

I am pleased that Star Jones is leaving The View; I so could not stand her. Her facade, her faith, her superficial material values, her manners (like this habit she has to aggressively clap in her hand when explaining something). Her ambition to become a forced star. The woman is just unpleasant. The total opposite of Meredith!

But, the way Walters acted the days after is just ...low. She contradicts herself, stating she loves Star but gets rid of her like dirt because she found out she is not profitable enough for her own business ambition. What a cold and heartless corporate attitude. I had no idea Walters could be that bad. What misbehavior. She should have allowed Jones to finish her season, in ’’dignity’’...
