US rapper Snoop Dogg freed from British custody
Apr 28, 2006, 3:39 GMT
London - American rapper Snoop Dogg was freed against police bail from custody in Britain Thursday where he had been held after a 'fracas' over access to a first-class British-Airways (BA) airport lounge.
His lawyer said Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, had 'not been charged with any offence' and would continue his travel to South Africa for a series of music events.
He made no comment on five members of Dogg's entourage who were also arrested on suspicion of causing violent disorder and affray after an incident at London's Heathrow Airport Wednesday evening in which seven police officers were slightly injured.
The trouble broke out when Dogg and his team, arriving as transit passengers from Los Angeles, demanded access to a BA first-class lounge, without holding corresponding tickets.
Witnesses described Snoop, 33, screaming at his minders, who then began to smash champagne bottles.
'It was absolute chaos, and on the brink of turning really nasty,' one witness told the Daily Mirror.
The group had become 'abusive' and pushed officers, police said.
One officers sustained a fractured hand, while others suffered cuts and bruises.
'There was an incident involving a group of passengers at our lounge where some passengers were rude and abusive to our staff and that's something we do not tolerate,' BA said.

Lets not jump to conclusions just yet, the media are probably making this out to be bigger then it was.
The mere notion Snoop 'was screaming' seems very out of character for such a laid back guy, although 8 hours on a plane made him probably crave his marijuana.
IF Snoop is indeed involved as much as expected then I am very dissapointed as an English fan of his.
I dont care who you are, or who you think you are, you have no right to behave in that manner.
'Black' refered to his ghetto culture more than skin color.
Stop pretending that finding something offensive gives you an excuse to invalidate it.
Calvin owes all of Great Britian an apology. He should also change his name to snoop punk.
They will most likely just get a 'Rap' on the knuckles

I have read various news articles over this.
It seems to be very clear, hot-headed security going over the top and believing that they qualify to diplomatic immunity.
A clear message must be sent out, the United Kingdom will not tollerate this kind of behaviour. Given the popularity Mr. Broaden, the max. sentence must be given and to his protection officers. It is clear that the police will charge. Celebrities wishing to enter the country should therefore think twice about the people they're employing.
Lastly, British Airways airport lounges are exceptional - in terms of comfort and general service. If Mr. Broden is so wealthy as he claims (or his paper value does) then dont go cheap, pay for everyone to travel first.
We at the United Kingdom are a conservative bunch of people. Those antics might win you space in Hello magazine, but also one in Jail.

Snoop Doggy Dogg, is very rich and has contacts with some of the most powerful men in the world for instance Bill Gates of Microsoft, occasionaly plays golf with snoop as they discuss game ideas, since snoop is a known gamer.
I mean these security guards, are not going to have a job by monday.
Something like this happened to Jay-z (Total assets 1.5 billion) - the employees of the hotel, were all subsequently fired, over the whole thing.
Snoop Doggy Dogg, is a gangsta rapper - I mean his music is filled with violence, come on who finds this shocking?
I find it amusing actually, Im sure the dogg laughs it up knowing that these 'punks' still make less then he does :P
No matter what Snoop still has more money then a police officer, and this is why he wins in court - the same thing with Eminem.
But seriously, Im on Mr Dogg's side - hes a world famous star, bill him for the spots thats all. - 'Police' went a little to far for no reason.
Being 47, I do not listen to his music - but even I know who this man is..
He broke a cops hand? - lol, you go snoop! haha
Wow snoop is like such a skinny fella, and he was punking the police? haahah thats funny stuff..
Next time I guess they will not cross 'Tha Dogg'
there is no excuse for this behaviour - I am so utterly disappointed in Snoop, up until hearing about this, I was a fan. I don't know who these thugs think they are - but at an airport????? That is the height of stupidity - and if these are the kinds of people Snoop chose to hire, then his judgment is severely impaired and inflicting them on others is all on him - let the punishment match the crime - I repeat - an airport??!! There is far too much self esteem with these jerks - even if they had first class tickets, there is a code of conduct that must be adhered to, punkass thugs - I hope they get time
You people have too much time on your hands.
Well, it seems clear now that he was denied entry to the lounge because he had no tickets for it.
At least they didn't throw him out of the window like Harrison 'no tickets' Ford did to the Nazi in his Last Crusade movie... ;)

The use of someone's skin color to aid in describing how stupid you think they are immediately discredits any valid point you might try to make. But I will use the term racist bigot in order to aid in describing how much of an ignorant moron you seem to be.
A valid point you might have been trying to make, as long as we're making generalizations, is that the rich and famous can be assholes.
