Dave Grohl: Foo Father

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl is a father.

The rocker and wife, Jordyn Blum, have named their first child, Violet Maye, after his grandmother.

The youngster was born in a Los Angeles on Saturday (15.04.06), but the couple have kept news of their new arrival quiet until now.

The pregnancy was also kept under wraps until the band's drummer, Taylor Hawkins, let it slip during an interview on live TV earlier this year.

He said: 'We're going to be touring Europe in January and February, but we've got to be home by March, because Dave and his wife are having a baby... but I probably wasn't supposed to tell you that.''

In February, after failing to win a Grammy, Grohl - who was previously the drummer in legendary grunge band Nirvana - confessed that he'd already been playing music to his unborn child.

He said revealed: 'It likes the Beatles, but doesn't really get down to the Beach Boys. It digs Mozart though.'

The singer, 37, also joked he was considering hanging up his guitar when he became a father.

He quipped: 'I don't need Grammys anymore, baby! I'm retiring. I'm going to write a children's book. Isn't that what you're supposed to do when you have kids? Or form a kid's band.'
