US authorities close down Jackson's Neverland Ranch
Mar 10, 2006, 4:12 GMT
Los Angeles - US authorities on Thursday effectively closed Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch, citing the pop star's failure to pay more than 30 workers at the sprawling fantasy estate.
California labour officials also fined Jackson 69,000 dollars for failing to pay workers' compensation insurance, according to a work stoppage order published by the investigative website The Smoking Gun.
The report said that the unpaid wage claims totaled more than 300,000 dollars, fuelling further speculation about the financial solvency of Jackson, who for years has been rumoured to be close to bankruptcy.
The 47-year-old singer has been out of the country since shortly after his June 2005 acquittal on child molestation charges.
