London - British popstar George Michael has been arrested on suspicion of possessing drugs, after London police found him slumped behind the wheel of his car in the centre of the British capital, police said Sunday.
The 42-year-old singer and former co-founder of the pop group Wham! was arrested early Saturday and has since been released on bail, police said.
He was found slumped at the wheel of his car near Hyde Park Corner in central London. The BBC said that quantities of drugs were found in the car.
Michael made headlines in 1998 when he was arrested for lewd conduct in a public toilet in Los Angeles after being spotted by an undercover police officer.
The incident led him to reveal that he was gay.
He started Wham! with schoolmate Andrew Ridgeley, and their hits in the mid-1980s included songs such as 'Wham Rap,' 'Wake Me Up Before You Go', 'Freedom' and 'I'm Your Man.'
The duo split in 1986, and Michael pursued a solo career.
His first solo album, 'Faith,' released in 1988, was a success with both critics and fans, selling in excess of 10 million copies.
