Washington - Grammy Award-winning pop singer Sheryl Crow has undergone breast cancer surgery less than a month after splitting up with cyclist and cancer survivor Lance Armstrong.
Crow, 44, underwent surgery Wednesday for 'minimally invasive' breast cancer, and her prognosis is excellent, her publicist told CNN Friday.
'I am inspired by the brave women who have faced this battle before me and grateful for the support of family and friends,' Crow said in a written statement. 'I am joining the more than 200,000 women who will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year.'
Crow will receive radiation treatments as a precaution, but her doctors are optimistic, the publicist said.
She has postponed her North American tour scheduled for March and April, but her publicist said she intended to reschedule as much of it as possible.
Crow and Armstrong split up after two years of dating and a five- month engagement in early February. It would have been her first marriage and his second.
Armstrong, 35, overcame cancer to become the most dominant athlete in cycling.
