Hugh Laurie is flabbergasted he's a sex symbol - because even his wife doesn't fancy him.
The actor insists he can't understand his new heartthrob status since he started starring in hit series 'House'.
He told Britain's Now magazine: 'Even my wife Jo doesn't think I'm sexy. 'It's a miracle we have children.' The 46-year-old also admitted he hates baring his body on the show. He said: 'I recently did a shower scene and it was one of the most traumatic events of my life. 'It struck me as a misuse of resources because the producers have gone to the trouble of hiring young, beautiful people with smooth skin and high bottoms and they go and pick the old guy with buns of yoghurt. It staggers my wife.' Laurie confessed he can't believe he won the role in the first place. He joked: 'I consider casting me to be a colossal mistake. Hugh Laurie has a brain! What woman wants a dumb pretty boy? UGH! I couldn't possibly get turned on to a dumbo. Besides, Laurie is very handsome in an aritocratic way. He is well educated and not a media bum. His sincere self effacing personality makes him all the more attractive. Why has there been a hiatus in the shows?
Hugh Laurie is sexy because 1.) He's British and 2.) Those blue eyes of his are startling and 3.) His character on House is an intelligent doctor. Besides, he plays a complete ass on the show. What woman isn't attracted to the jerk? All woman think they can change a man... and the biggest accomplishment of all would be to change someone as arrogant and caustic as Gregory House.
I love Hugh, and his character. House is my dream husband. Is that sick?
I love House he has the prettiest blue eyes. What I want to know is why you keep putting the show off. You stopped for a few weeks right after it came back on in the fall, and now you are doing it again. Its a great show, I understand American Idol is important but I would watch House over American Idol anytime.
Hugh is handsome, talented and absolutely brilliant with his acting. My favorite 'celebrity' of all time, easily.
Self-deprecation is just about the most adorable thing in the world, and Hugh Laurie has it down to an art. Couple that with his forlorn blue eyes and you have a big old puppy who is just BEGGING for a hug. Girls can't resist puppies, you know. (And though I know a lot of older women are glad to have their middle-aged sex-symbol, I am 20 years old and still adore this man, so his admirers come in many forms).
I LOVE hugh!.. I mean.. He's got an accent.. which is a leg up on every guy i know. He's smart!.. If a guy's got a brain he's already half way to my heart!.. And my very favourite partt about him is his eyes.. wow.. way to knock you out... They're the Most striking blue eyes... you can just get lost in there ... and overall appeal .. there is nothing wrong with him.. He's very good looking.., I'm not surprised with the sex appeal.. ;)

The fact that he is amazed people find him sexy is sexy in itself. Buff and hot are in the eye of the beholder. People are tired of everyone judging others by outside appearances. The house character appeals to many because he is 'damaged' Many of us have huge hearts and want to fix problems and help people. As to Hugh Laurie himself it's nice to see someone real. Some one not prettied up and perfect. Hugh Laurie is awesome because he is such a humble guy. As for baring himself on tv it doesn't bother the fans. Truthfully like someone else said it's the dang eyes that catch and hold your attention. As was said in Cinderella 'Do I love you because you are beautiful or are you beautiful because I love you?' We love House and Hugh and that's what makes him beautiful.
I have you all beat. I'm seventeen :) I think Laurie is so attractive because he's amazing, but modest about it. He doesn't even realize it. Obviously, there are the eyes, but I also like the sort of gruff look he has going on there. I really love the snarky sense of humor House has. It's so insulting but honnestly that often makes it more funny (cruel but true). The thing I admire the most about Laurie though, is his acting ability. If you watch him in the Brit. Com. Blackadder, you see him play a completly different character: either a brainless Lieutenant named George in WWI who hasn't got a clue, who is adorably nieve, or the brainless Prince of Wales during the French Revolution (also named George) who also hasn't got a clue. George is the polar opposite of House. It amazes me how he plays two completly different characters so seemlessly.
Blue eyes, a brain, and wit. Not to mention playing a sexy prince with hair perched atop his head like a particularly attractive loaf of bread. If you don;t get the last part you need to watch some Britcoms.
Hugh is very attractive...I guess it's the tall, unshaven, baby blues that really make him attractive. To me anyway! But...His 'House' role that portrays an unhappy, disatisfied with life, and 'I don't care' attitude profile towards others is also attractive. Believe it or not! He's right though..everybody lies! What makes his role fun is trying to figure out what's inside his head, and why he's so aggitated all the time. Yes, I'm a Psych major! So I guess I'm more attracted to his House role then I am the real thing. Besides, he's happily married with three teenagers the same age as my teens. So I guess it's okay to dream about meeting him one day...perhaps even visiting the set for a quick autograph.
Hugh Laurie is a brillant actor not only in his dramatic role on House but in the earlier UK comedy shows and movies he has done. Also talented with being a successful musician and author. Loved his book. Sorry Jo doesn't think you're sexy, she needs to take a second look. She's a very lucky woman to have you. You're gorgeous. Although I've heard very hard to live with, but most actor-comedians are.
It isn't Hugh I want. I WANT HOUSE! I find House the perfect man for my tastes and desires. Hugh and the writers/directors etc have created a wonderful man and I only wish he was real.

If I was a female, I'd totally hit on Hugh Laurie. Seriously, that's saying a lot. Other than that, the guy is magnificent as an actor. As said, he's British, hot eyes, and a really hot English accent. In the show, he doesn't have one, which was a great shock to me. Outside the show, that accent is fabulous. What a great, modest guy.

While I compliment everybody's taste, I don't see what age differences have to do with it. Men in their forties are attractive. Maybe primetime has been pushing 'fabulous and sexy' youngsters so much that we ladies are starved for it, but check the average age of male movie leads. Brad Pitt is 43, only three years younger than Laurie. And I don't see anyone saying, 'I'm attracted to Brad Pitt and I'm only ___!' (Johnny Depp is also 43. Antonio Banderas is 46.)
Hugh Laurie is uniquely unique, as simple as that. He or his character 'House' has a whole lot of fans and House, in each episode, does add some delicious flavors on his taste and ability of acting. The guy is amazing and I have seen his various roles in many plays and movies; he's so gifted and talented.
One of my friends asked me of what I think about House, 'GOD! I wish House episodes would never finish nor have an end. I'd definitely contribute with some amount of money as long as it'll never end!' I said.

I'm also one of the girls who started watching Hugh Laurie in his earlier work on British Television. (My favorite show beining perhaps Jeeves and Wooster, but my favorite role of his is 'Gorgeous Georgina' when he cross-dressed in Blackadder...'I feel fannntastic!' Briliiant). I picked up my obbsession for him from my sister (who is much farther gone than me and wants to brear his love child). I love his new character in House. I think the writing is so funny, and Laurie dilivers it so well!
I love Dr. House, he is definitely someone i would love to be with. Everything about him turns me on!!! The way his character acts on the show is very appealing to all women, basically because he doesn't try to be someone else. Hugh if you are ever in town .... give me a call.

But reading the article...I was shocked to find he felt his being cast as House was a mistake. A pretty boy doctor would not have the same effect...we like the rugged sarcastic doctor...imagine Chase with House's personality...you can't see it fitting...I LIKE having a character who is soooo far from our stereotypical TV stars.
I've always had a thing for the intelligent man. But beyond that Hugh is HUMBLE. How many hollywood boys do we know that actually HUMBLE about what they do, or humble about themselves in general? He's got a fabulous sense of humour and he's unbelievably emotive. The eyes have it all. With a personality like that, eyes like that and a blatant self-deprecation how can you not want to have him?
House is sexy because he's the anti-hero we've all been waiting for. Not all life is pretty and not all heroe's are simple, one-sided characters. House is the rebel with a cause, and a hot one at that.

I think all of the characters on House are nice, yes. But Hugh is the best. He's older, but witty and hot. And that shower scene was too DIE for! And how could your wife not find you sexy?! That's insane! But yes, you have it going on!!
Hugh Laurie had me at Bertie Wooster. He plays a profound bumbling idiot, and an even more impressive pessimist. I definitely miss the accent, but am willing to wait forever to hear it again! I'm 18 years old and i just love House. I really never thought of Hugh Laurie as 'attractive' when i saw him in Stuart Little but since ive been watching House i just started to like him a lot. House's attitude can leave a lot to be desired sometimes but i still like his character. Some of my favorite scenes are between House and Wilson. Chase maybe younger and yes hes a hotty but thats not all to be desired in a man. I like older guys, they are usually more mature and have more sense than the younger breed. One last thing, Hugh you so rock!
Yeah Hugh is cool. That is when you can actually watch! Seriously Fox, stop it, it's hacking me off. I friggin HATE American Idol. Not only do you push off prolly the best show on TV for it, but you have it on 3 times a week. It's not needed. The shows are needlessly drawn out to the point of making me want to kill myself waiting for it to end.
I totally agree with JD! I love house and its always canceled for some other show like American Idol. American Idol is so old and boring, its like the same all the time. I want HOUSE. I look forward all week for House and then its canceled. House is the most amazing, suspenseful, and funny show! Its got great acting! The best show on fox by far! (24 is good but the acting sucks)!
I follow house more closely than any other show on television. And I'm not saying this in a sexual way or anything, but I get it. House is incredibly rational, to the extent to which he doesn't follow what society says is rational, but what he truly believes to be the right descision. He saves his patients lives for a reason. If he followed the rules, his patients would die, and he knows that, and he knows which matters more.
He is also complex. Understanding the logic he uses is not always easy, but he always seems to be right. He can take the littlest clue and have it make the biggest difference.
Finally, House actually mocks society. When a to-be president doesn't want the press to know that he has AIDS, because he doesn't want his community to suffer for it, he makes fun of it. When a poor man claims that his job is something other than it is in hopes of better treatment, he makes fun of it. And, my personal favorite, when a rich doctor tries to treat himself like a third-worlder, House forces him to realize that he isn't, no matter how much he wants the press to believe so.
And that is what people like about House. Nobody can tell him what to do, especially not society. He's a rebel, and a better person for it. He lives his own life, and he lives it better than you live the one somebody else built for you. He is his own man.
If I ever met a guy like the character House, I'd marry him in a heartbeat
House has texture, in his face.. in his voice. His expressions are so subtle, and the camera is very generous with closeup times, we really get to look at him, really look at his face and say, wow he's doing that little mouth thing that means he's really actually being emotionally effected by whats going on in this scene. And you know that house doesnt always let stuff effect him, let alone show it!
The episode where he gets drunk with LL cool J, and walks in with a hangover the day after..that scene, doors open, there house, gorgeous black sunnies, tshirt and jacket arrangment..I love it. He's intriguing, mysterious, obsessive and a little helpless. Emotionally, he's everything a girl wants in a lover, and that is so powerful, we actually convince ourselves he is attractive.
Just goes to show, it really isn't the looks that matter, but its how you think about a character or person that makes them attractive. Watch some old black adder, you'll see what I mean.
Here's my thoughts on it. HOUSE is a complicated man for years we've been told men aren't complicated. All they want is sex and a beer. Not House. He may be damaged but I think we are all damaged to some degree. House wears his damage as a badge of honor and doesn't try to hide it with lies and deceit or even cover it up with denial. This type of honesty is very refreshing to me. I wouldn't have to guess where i stand with him whether I was a coworker or a friend. House's damage makes him complicated and difficult to understand which gives him a mystery and an edge of danger. I would love to have the confidence and freedom to be like house and show the world the pain and not care that others will judge me.
i also notice that his overt display of his damage makes him overtly vulnerable. By showing he has problems we know he can be hurt and while his gruff exterior is what is shown most, his problems assure he has a human fallable heart inside. And even when he's giving bad news to a patient and pulls no punches i can still hear compassion in his voice.
Wow. All these young uns' warming up to Hugh Laurie. What must he think? I am older than Hugh, and I think he is fantastic. The more I see him on shows as himself, the more impressed I am. He is funny, brilliant, and always interesting. Of course, the eyes. They tell me my baby blues are great, but they pale next to Hugh's Blues!
I find Hugh and his character compelling. HE inflicts pain onto others while you know that his character is in greater pain, whether it is emotional or physical. We do not feel sorry for those who are on the receiving end of his barbs because afterall, if he can endure it - they should too - momentarily. The fact that he is intelligent (and proves it!) and he goes very fast on a moorcycle makes him a blue-eyed dream boat for me!

I'm sure Hugh Laurie's comments were made tongue-in-cheek! He mentions looks as the main criterea in TV, but it is SPIRIT that counts and in his acting he has 200% of this requirement, oh, and with those intense blue eyes make that 300%.

I had never heard of Hugh Laurie until I started watching House. He is sexy because he is a jerk on the show. All of us women are attracted to guys who are total buttheads. A funny thing is, I rented one of Hugh's movies and I told my husband that he wasnt attractive as Hugh, but he's quite sexy as Greg House. It's a plus that he plays the piano and drives a motorcycle! Hooot!

Ok, I really dont like Medical dramas that much. My parents used to watch E.R. when I was a kid, and I hated it. House on the other hand is awesome. House has a look that is so penatrating and cool. He is a fellow addict too. It seems thats what has been going around these days. The whole cast in fact is awesome. I think that one episode should be fully committed to Dr. Wilson because it looks like he has an interesting and fun past that the viewers would enjoy hearing more about. Fave Episodes are 111 where he detoxes, and also the 3 stories one when they view Houses past. And all of season 2. Good job Fox, once again you are setting the standard.

Hugh appeals to girls because he is the idealistic jerk. It seems like deep down, all women want a man like he is on House. With the sarcastic attitude and all. Couple of thoughts. First, if his wife really doesn't think
he's sexy, Which I doubt, it's simular to people who have grown used to having Filet Mignon on a regular basis so they don't have the same reverence for it as those of us who dine on pot roast or ground beef.
And, as to Hugh's comment about his nether region(buns) resembling yoghurt, well-------I understand that everybody who has a healthy ego and outlook on life thinks that their physical body is less perfect than they'd like it to be. If you want perfection, you'll always be disappointed.
Besides, I'm more of a chest and legs woman myself, and Hugh's are just fine.

i'm probably the youngest person here. i'm 13. i have loved hugh laurie since the 1st time i saw 'House'. i just find the jerk-ish-ness he displays no the show is downright sexy. if i ever get married, i'd marry a man like hugh. (not saying any of this to creep people out)

Hugh Laurie is the sexiest man on television. He doesn't have to work at being sexy, he comes by it naturally. He has the most amazing blue eyes I have ever seen, very sexy. Not only is House brilliant, he is hot!! I was hooked from the first episode, I hope House never changes. The grumpier the better. I hope House lasts forever, it is the best show on television.
Hugh is soooooo handsome and i don't think that appeals only to specific ages. I am 21, i heard of women in their 40's etc. I am glad that they decided to air the show here in GREECE,as we do not get to see good american series.
HOUSE MD is by far the best. I love his witty remarks, his sarcasm and how he does not care about anything. I love also the sexual implications with Cuddy and the other women.
