Court backs ex-wife in Jackson child custody
Feb 16, 2006, 17:22 GMT
Los Angeles - A California appeals court has taken the side of Michael Jackson's ex-wife Debbie Rowe in a bitter dispute over custody of their two children, according to U.S. news reports Thursday.
California's 2nd District Court of Appeals confirmed that Rowe signed away her parental rights in 2001 to the 47-year-old performer's two oldest children, Michael Jr and Paris. But it said that the judge in that case did not handle the proceedings properly because he failed to initiate an independent investigation into what would be best for the children.
Rowe had appealed against Jackson's sold custody in 2004 when Jackson faced charges of child molestation, of which he was acquitted last year.
Jackson has a third child Prince Michael II, by an unknown mother.
Jackson, who now lives in Bahrain, was not present at Wednesday's court hearing.
