Pamela Anderson boycotting Kentucky Derby
Feb 16, 2006, 16:18 GMT
Pamela Anderson is boycotting the Kentucky Derby because it's sponsored by KFC.
The 38-year-old actress is refusing to go the famous horse race in protest of the cruel treatment of the chickens served by the fast food chain, created by Kentucky resident Colonel Sanders.
She is quoted by America's USA Today newspaper as saying: 'It makes me want to avoid Kentucky altogether, which is sad because there are so many great people there. 'Like most people, I don't want to support cruelty to animals, whether it's forcing horses to race for our amusement or scalding chickens for our plate.' The busty blonde added: 'We have to be more evolved than this.' Kentucky Derby spokesman, John Asher, regrets Pammy - who used to regularly attend the event - will not be there this year. He said: 'We would certainly love to welcome her back somewhere down the road.' Last month, Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher refused the former 'Baywatch' babe's request to have a statue of Colonel Sanders removed from the state Capital. He called her request a misguided publicity stunt.Copyright 2006 BANG Media International
