Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel, star Oprah Winfrey visit Auschwitz

Warsaw - Nobel Peace Prize winner and Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel and US television talk show star Oprah Winfrey visited the former Nazi German death camp Auschwitz in Oswiecim, southern Poland, the Polish PAP news agency reported.
The visit was organised in conjunction with the U.S. re- publication of Elie Wiesel's 1986 book 'Night', in which he was a child prisoner at Auschwitz, the most notorious of Nazi Germany's death camps where more than a million people, mostly European Jews, were killed between 1940-45.
A camera crew accompanied Wiesel and Winfrey. The footage will be part of an episode of the popular Oprah Winfrey Show on U.S. national network TV.
The Romanian-born Wiesel, 78, is regarded as one of the most vocal activists keeping alive the memory of the Holocaust during which some 6 million Jews were systematically killed by Nazi Germany as part of dictator Adolf Hilter's plan of anti-Semitic genocide.
Wiesel coined the term the 'Holocaust' to identify the WWII mass murder of Jews.
