Rod Stewart's placenta burial

Rod Stewart headed up a bizarre ceremony to welcome his new baby into the world - dousing its placenta in tea tree oil and burying it in the back garden.
The rocker and his wife Penny Lancaster - who last month gave birth to their first child, Alistair - finished off the ceremony by planting a walnut tree above the burial so Penny's bodily cast-off can live on for centuries.
The smitten pair said they took home the placenta after the birth and kept it in the freezer until the ritual.penny revealed: 'We brought the placenta home and put it in the freezer so we could bury it later. When Rod's children Renee and Liam came over from Los Angeles, after lunch and before it got dark, we had a little ceremony. We doused the placenta in tea tree oil and placed it in a hole we'd dug in the garden.
'I said a few words like, 'This is for our little Alistair. May he have a long and healthy life.' Rod then passed a spade to Liam, who shovelled in some earth. Then we all took turns. We all jumped on the top and flattened the ground. It was a resting place for it.' She added to Britain's Hello magazine: 'My mum bought us a walnut tree and we thought it would be nice to bury it together.'Copyright 2005 BANG Media International
