Tom Cruise has been slammed by fire-fighters injured in the 9/ll attacks - for suggesting they use Scientology to heal themselves.
The actor has reportedly urged people suffering the effects of smoke inhalation from the terrorist attacks to quit using their medication and inhalers - and start drinking cooking oil.
The 'purification' programme also advises people to take large doses of niacin and indulge in plenty of saunas. The Hollywood heavyweight - a co-founder of the New York Rescue Workers Detoxification Project - has also supported a new Scientology clinic preaching these remedies. However, doctors have reportedly dismissed the treatment as 'quackery'. Deputy Fire Commissioner Frank Gribbon told PageSix.com: 'If our doctors are prescribing medication, and they (Scientologists) are saying, 'don't take it', that's a problem for us.' He also claimed the department's deputy chief medical officer Dr David Prezant is against the treatment. He said: 'He (Prezant) is not pleased when patients are advised to disobey doctors' orders. That's where he drew the line.' Scientology devotee Tom - who is engaged to actress Katie Holmes, who is pregnant with their first baby together - has defended the purification process, claiming: 'More than 500 individuals have recovered health and job fitness through this project.'Copyright 2005 BANG Media International

Beware the cult's pr machine in the comments to this story.
It's amazing how many quacks there are out there! Tom Cruise sure likes to embarass himself.
God save me from idiots.
You should really try something before you knock it.If you wear glasses you will probably never forget being able to see for the first time, when you look ed thru a pair of glasses that fit your prescription. For me personally that is exactly how I remember the Purification rundown, It been 25 years ago,but the marked perception gain, I'll never forget.
Man as man has a certain perception, that has a certain range that cause his reality to be where we all agree on what we see. We call that reality. It is based upon ones perception. To change ones perception to a higher marked degree, will give you another reality level on life, putting one at a different agreement level. Rememember we are really a spirit, that has the potential to just know. As one rises in perception toward God or that spiritual state of being, his perceptions on life changes dramatically and he sees life differently, giving him another reality or agreement level. The Purification rundown, will give one reality his perception can change. Few until Scientology ever had a reality there perception could change so dramatically.
That cooking oil which sounds so bland is Olive oil.(That is what the Negitive people want to portray Scientology, as they can't change). People aware of nutrition knows the difference and knows that is just one of many nutrients given on the program, which is used to replenish the oils the Sauna and heat removes, It is not at all the active ingredient or main reason the program works. In the 30 years I have known about Scientology, I know of no incidents where the Purif ever harmed any one. Done properly whith all the drugs and chemicals sweated out of the body, one would have a reality why we are so dead against Drugs. We are toughing on the drug companies profits so I expect this to be made into a big deal.
Scientologists know that comunication is the solvent of all problems, This society thinks drugs are. Just two different reality or agreement levels. I invite any one too look around society and see what drugs have done to this culture. If you can't see then do the purif and you will, I promise...
I'd like to know which government spent $90 million studying Hubbard's Detox program and where I can get the report. The state of California is removing all Narconon programs from public school following a study for the State Superintendent of Schools which stated that the Narconon program, which uses Hubbard's detoxification program, if bad science. And a former U.S. Surgen General, C. Evertt Koop had even harsher words in criticism of the program. Please give us some facts.
I've personally done this program, and had great results. With a past drug history and having been exposed to minor radiation in my work, I had amazing things happen to me while on the program. It really gave me my life back.
Also, I've spoken to three of the fire-fighters who actually did the program. One of them, Joe Higgins, who had been a very in-shape fire-fighter pre-911 (as most fire-fighters have to be) was stuck in bed and on medication over a year after 911 (something we hear very little of in the mainstream media is the toxicity these fire-fighters were exposed to and what it has done to their bodies and their LIVES). After doing the program and detoxifying the toxins (even reporting sweating out purple 'junk'), he is now back to work and in tip-top shape.
So, when the MD's call the detox program quackery, ask yourself why. Could it be because it's 'quackery' that works???? Does it provide a 'cure' or solution when all the expen medication provides is prolonged treatment? The pharmaceutical companies HATE the idea of curing anything BTW. Treatment is where the money is, so of course cures and solutions are bogus!
I hope the people reading this article also read the comments and can think for themselves.
After so many fire-fighters lost their health and many lost their lives trying to help people, shouldn't we be happy that some people are trying to help them????
I think it is great to have an alternative to patient's care, I personally don't like to take medications, If I can use something natural to cure me, why not? Why raise the cost of healthcare? I understand some people need medication, that is not my arguement ,I just think maybe some people need to check into the natural resources we have here on this earth..
But... I do recommend all of you watch the South Park about Scientology, and Tom Cruise. It is hilarious!

Go to www.drexun.org /'Helping Firemen' -- on that page is a link that will answer your question. I invite you to read the entire home page so as to have a more complete picture as to what really is behind the smoke and mirrors. Keep in mind that 'healthcare' is a $1.6 Trillion a year industry and very powerful interests will do anything to maintain their control. If anything, recent White House disclosures should alert you to the fact that the media and vested interests manipulate people. Go to www.scientologyhandbook.org / scroll down and review the chapter 'Answer to Drugs' for additional info. Best, David Barrington
I have done the detox program and can tell you that it works and one should go and take a look at the info before deciding for oneself. Forget all the naysayers and just go take a look for yourself, read the info talk to people who have done it and see for yourself. It is simply amazing to me how much false data one sees everyday in life. You begin to wonder what and whom to believe. Well I can tell you what worked for me and that was to go and look at things for myself, get all sides and them make an informed decision. I heard a good line a few years ago that helped me decide what to do: Its only your health and what better investment can one make in life than in himself. Made sense to me the more I looked at it.
A quick note on the detox rundown: There is quite a bit of mention as to how good its participants FEEL. This is by no means a good standard for what someone's actual physical health may be. Appeals to perceptions of one's health are made by Scientologists. This is QUITE effective when examining the method invoked by their detox centers.
Ever been in a steam room at a gym? There are warning signs posted there about time and duration that one ought to remain under such condition. As it turns out, the length of THESE saunas in their detox rundown are...well, quite a bit lengthier than those usually recommended. Result: The body OUGHT to feel fatigue, right? Not so fast!!! This is where the Scientology vitamin boosts come in! While the body would normally be fatigued, these supplements keep the body going through these saunas and we go through huge endorphin kicks. Result: People feel REALLY good.
It is a VERY important distinction that must be made between FEELING better and actually BEING HEALTHIER. As the Scientologist OUGHT to grant, drugs can make people FEEL better without actually BEING HEALTHIER. What we ought to be asking for and reading comments on are how the rundown actually works to make people healthier. Not testimonials on feelnigs. ...Because I might add a quick note on endorphins: they affect the brain's opiate receptors, causing pain relief and emotional alterations.
On a related note, halucinations are not incredibly rare during these treatments. I would be a liar if I said that no Scientologist has accredited these halucinations to a mental/spiritual experience.
hypothermia is that way. after people start freezing they begin to feel warm when hypothermia sets in. better feeling with worse health. the science of how saunas and vitamins cure needs to be explained. i'm only reading how saunas and vitamins give endorfin kicks. opium would give the same feeling.
How much does it normally cost to....
Do the Purif, TRs and Objectives and the SCN Drug Rundown?
Thanks....

It's rare I encounter such a distorted commentary on a topic as was yours regarding Hubbard's Detox Program. The government spent $90 million to 'study the problem' while the Detox centers helped (at no cost to those on the program) more than 300 firemen and emergency care givers. I respectfully request that you print this response and provide readers an opportunity to visit www.drexun.org (page: 'Helping Fireman'). Thank you. David M Barrington
