Hugh Laurie has confessed he experimented with drugs - to research his latest TV role.
The British actor has revealed he took the strong painkiller Vicodin to get into character for his role as Dr Gregory House in hit US medical drama 'House'.
In the show, Laurie's character is seen taking the highly-addictive pills - to which 'Friends' star Matthew Perry and rapper Eminem have both battled addiction against - to cope with chronic leg pain. He confessed to American chat show host Jay Leno: 'It's a painkiller if you're not really in pain. If you're not in pain it's actually quite recreational.' Earlier this year, Laurie admitted landing the role in 'House' helped him to overcome depression. The 45-year-old star claims he suffered from the crippling condition for three years and insists starring the show helped him re-build his low self-esteem. He said at the time: 'I realised my state of mind of was that of a depressed person. I diagnosed myself and decided I would try to sort it out. 'But being in 'House' is great for me.'Copyright 2005 BANG Media International
