Paris Hilton to give up her pet monkey
Nov 18, 2005, 14:19 GMT
Paris Hilton is being ordered to give up her pet monkey - after illegally smuggling it across the state line.
The sexy heiress picked up the exotic kinkajou - a rare relation of the racoon - on a recent trip to Las Vegas.
But the primate pet - named Baby Luv - is illegal in Paris' hometown of Los Angeles and the authorities are demanding she return it. A spokesman for the California Department for Fish and Game explained: 'We'll send them a letter to let them know we're aware they have a restricted species.' Lisa Lange of PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, added: 'It seems Paris thinks animals are as disposable as friends and fiancés.' But Baby Luv has already reaped revenge on Paris - after attacking her while out shopping earlier this week. According to reports, the monkey bit Paris and clawed at her face as she entered Los Angeles designer boutique Agent Provocateur with the simian on her shoulder. Luckily, the 'Simple Life' star managed to pull the monkey away before hooking Baby Luv's leash onto a cabinet so she could shop in peace. paris then spent over US$4,000 on designer bras, panties and a kinky bullwhip, according to America's New York Post newspaper.

I am deeply saddened that this story is online. As a kid I had a neighbor who smuggled a kinkajou home from South America. They are beautiful, nocturnal animals that should never be taken from the wild and abused as a trendy pet. I am glad you didn't post a photo of the animal; I hope this story just goes away. Sometimes I wish Paris Hilton would just go away too. Now that her pet has been identified it as a KINKajou, the whole Paris Hilton celebrity sex obsession will snowball to further fuel the already tragic black market in exotic animals. They have incredibly sharp teeth; I hope they bite where it counts.
I think that Paris Hilton is sometimes misunderstood. Even though I am a strong animal lover and PETA supporter, I feel that it was a cruel thing, of Lisa Lange, to say that she treats animals like friends and fiancees. My first point is that she treats her pets like pets, nothing else! My second point is that it is rude and inconsiderate to imply that she treats her firends and fiancees in a bad way!
Thankyou

A kinkajou is not a monkey, nor a primate. It is related to the raccoon as the article states, and its other relatives are ringtails, coati mundis, and olingos, Kinkajous are of the order carnivore, so they are very far from being primates.
