Agent denies Depardieu's retirement declaration

Paris - The agent for French actor Gerard Depardieu said that he doubted that the star of Cyrano de Bergerac and scores of other films would retire from cinema, as he has threatened, the daily Liberation reported Monday. Depardieu has been threatening to quit acting 'for ten years', agent Claude Davy said, adding: 'I don't believe a word of it.' The daily Le Parisien had quoted the 57-year-old Depardieu as saying that he was 'a man about to stop making films,... a guy on his way out'. Davy said that while Depardieu would not quit making films, he would almost certainly appear in fewer movies than before. 'Instead of making two or three films a year, it's possible he'll make no more than one every three years,' he said. 'He is tired of the cinema,' Davy admitted. 'It no longer amuses him. He wants to pursue business activities, he wants to do something else than acting.' © dpa - Deutsche Presse-Agentur
