Bush, Bono discuss Africa over lunch at White House

Washington - U.S. President George W. Bush and international pop superstar and activist Bono Wednesday discussed fighting disease and helping lift people out of poverty.
The U2 frontman has been outspoken about helping impoverished countries, especially in Africa, and over his career has become increasingly active on the global political stage.
White House spokesman Scott McClellan said Bush and Bono had lunch together at the White House. The two had also met during the Group of Eight summit in Scotland earlier this year.
'Both share a deep commitment to combating AIDS, preventing malaria, and expanding trade to lift people out of poverty, particularly in developing countries,' McClellan said.
He added that Bono would also meet with National Security Advisor Steve Hadley.
At a White House press conference, McClellan was asked if Bono, who is Irish, would be given a position in the Bush administration.
'I think he's enjoying the career that he has right now and doing all the good work that he does on behalf of people who are suffering in developing countries,' McClellan responded.
