Boy George called police to his home after a male prostitute tried to rob him the morning of his cocaine arrest, it has been claimed.
The flamboyant pop star was charged with possession of Class A drugs on Friday (07.10.05) after a stash of narcotics was uncovered in his New York home.
Officers are said to have discovered a quantity of cocaine after the former Culture Club singer - real name George O'Dowd - reported a burglary at his flat. It has now been claimed the gender-bending star called the authorities after the prostitute he had invited to his apartment demanded he hand over all of the money in his home. A source told America's New York Post newspaper: 'George said no and said he was going to call the police. 'The prostitute said, 'Go ahead and you'll go to jail.' So George freaked out because he was high, called the police, the prostitute left, and George got arrested.' According to a police source, George did not mention the gigolo during questioning. Earlier this week, George's lawyer, Lou Freeman, insisted the cocaine - now believed to have been discovered in a larger quantity than was first reported - did not belong to his client, saying: 'Tons of people come in and out of his home.' The singer - who faces up to 15 years in jail if he's convicted of the charges - will return to the US from Britain for a court hearing on December 19.Copyright 2005 BANG Media International
