Tom Hanks keen on moon walk
Oct 3, 2005, 12:29 GMT
Tom Hanks is begging space agency NASA to let him walk on the moon.
The Hollywood actor - a space nut - is reportedly desperate to join the organisation's next mission into space in 2018.
The 'Apollo 13' star - who recently wrote and produced new movie 'Magnificent Desolation: Walking on the Moon' - has always been a supporter of NASA and space travel.
He is said to be hoping the agency will repay him by letting him join the crew on the moon mission.
The star is quoted as saying: "I have just two questions: What will be the mission? And can I go?"
However according to reports, NASA sources say Hanks' age and height will count against him.
The Oscar-winning star will be 62-year-old when the shuttle launches - and at 6ft 1 the actor is too tall to be an astronaut.
Earlier this year Hanks was voted America's favourite movie star of 2004.
The 'Saving Private Ryan' actor, who has starred in more than 40 films, beat Mel Gibson into second place in the annual Harris poll published by the prestigious Wall Street Journal newspaper.
