George Clooney talks health problems
Aug 26, 2005, 12:47 GMT
George Clooney resorted to risky surgery to relieve him of agonising headaches and short-term memory loss caused by a back injury.
The Hollywood heartthrob has spoken out for the first time about the back problems that forced him to miss 'Ocean's Twelve' promotional appearances - and admits it was more serious than he let on at the time.
Although the actor played down his condition at the time, claiming he had ruptured disc, he has now confessed he had a torn dura mater, a membrane which protects the spinal chord.
The injury left George with painful headaches, which caused spinal fluid to run from his nose and even caused short-term memory loss.
So the former 'ER' star decided to undergo surgery to correct the problem.
He also admits he still takes painkillers Xanax and Motrin every day to cure his headaches.
George quipped in an interview with the new Men's Vogue magazine: "What you learn after you're 40 is it's just about plugging up holes in the boat."
