Scarlett Johansson used to date a heroin addict.

The stunning actress, currently rumoured to be romancing Josh Hartnett, has confessed she dumped her junkie boyfriend - who she did not name -  when his addiction got out of control.

She revealed: "It was horrible. I won't allow myself to get involved with somebody like that again because I was never as important as the drug."

Scarlett is currently thought to be romancing Josh after falling for him on the set of her new movie.

The sexy starlet - who was said to have ended her relationship with Hollywood heartthrob Jared Leto earlier this year - went on a string of romantic dates with her 'The Black Dahlia' co-star while shooting in Bulgaria.

An insider said at the time: "There was a real spark between Scarlett and Josh from the minute they met. Romance is definitely in the air. They have been on several dinner dates together."

Scarlett - who once moaned that young men didn't chat her up - recently said her relationship with Jared was doomed - because they rarely got to see each other.

The 'Lost in Translation' star, who began dating the handsome actor last year, said at the time: "It's a fact of life that in my business it's almost impossible to keep a relationship permanent. I get upset at the thought because I know it can lead to loneliness.

"But another part of me has to accept that's the way things are going to be. I'm already an independent girl and I've got used to doing things in my own way."
