Plea reached in Letterman case

Los Angeles - Prosecutors on Monday reached a plea deal with the man accused of plotting to kidnap the young son of talk-show host David Letterman from his Montana ranch. Under the terms of the deal, prosecutors dropped kidnapping charges against Kelly Frank, who pleaded guilty in state District Court to felony theft, misdemeanour obstruction and possessing illegally killed wildlife, a felony. The agreement calls for a 10-year sentence on the theft charge and lesser terms on the other pleas. Frank, a convicted felon who had been hired to do painting on Letterman's ranch, was arrested in March after he allegedly told an acquaintance of his plan to abduct Letterman's then 16-month-old son and the boy's nanny and hold them for a 5-million-dollar ransom. © dpa - Deutsche Presse-Agentur
