Ellen Page narrates Vanishing of the Bees film, tour details, previews

The disappearing Bee crisis is real, and the implications will affect us dramatically.

What if you went to your food store or farmer's market only to discover that 1/3 of your favorite foods were gone, never to be seen again?

"Vanishing of the Bees," a documentary narrated by Ellen Page (Juno), presents this frightening scenario, drawing dangerously close to becoming a reality, is screening / touring around the country through the beginning of June.  

Honeybees have been mysteriously disappearing across the planet, literally vanishing from their hives.

Known as Colony Collapse Disorder, this phenomenon has brought beekeepers to crisis in an industry responsible for producing apples, broccoli, watermelon, onions, cherries and a hundred other fruits and vegetables. Commercial honeybee operations pollinate crops that make up one out of every three bites of food on our tables.

Produced and directed by filmmakers George Langworthy, and Maryam Henein, Vanishing of the Bees follows commercial beekeepers David Hackenberg and Dave Mendes as they strive to keep their bees healthy and fulfill pollination contracts across the U.S. The film explores the struggles they face as the two friends plead their case on Capital Hill and travel across the Pacific Ocean in the quest to protect their honeybees.

Vanishing of the Bees will be screening / touring around the country through the beginning of June as part of “Do Something Reel Film Festival,” presented by Whole Foods Market.

As scientists puzzle over the cause, organic beekeepers indicate alternative reasons for this tragic loss. Conflicting options abound and after years of research, a definitive answer has not been found to this harrowing mystery. Featuring experts like author Michael Pollan, the film also presents a platform of solutions, encouraging audiences to be the change they want to see in the world. This award-winning documentary examines the alarming disappearance of honeybees and the greater meaning it holds about the relationship between mankind and mother earth.

Whole Foods Market presents the Do Something Reel™ Film Festival, a collection of six provocative, character-driven films focused on passionate people making a world of difference.

From the Coal River Valley of West Virginia to the inner city of Detroit, from vanishing bee populations to the evolution of the National School Lunch Program, from farmers and active everyday citizens to doctors and scientists, the Do Something Reel line-up provides a moving, eye-opening look at how the choices we make can have a huge impact on our bodies, our economy, and our environment.

Page is promoting the documentary "Vanishing of the Bees" and appeared on Bill Maher’s HBO show "Real Time with Bill Maher" last week to alert people to the serious problems that Colony Collapse Disorder creates for humankind:
